I live in a pretty crime free area, and carrying around home seemed silly. A month ago I had a heart attack and bypass surgery. I was shocked at how helpless I felt while walking around town for rehab. I started carrying a cane and .380 to ward off feral cats and other unwanted pests.
I own a couple of 94s and a 64. The 94s have never been fired by me and the 64 (32 Win Sp) hasn't been shot since the 1960s. I have too many other rifles that do the job better. A 760 is more effective for me for short range.
We are not required to have any permit to exercise the US Constitution. I have been armed every time that I have been pulled over. I have never mentioned it, and most cops here assume you are armed.
Season here starts on Nov. 1. We wash them out and hang them in the shop with the hide on. Might be a couple of days or sometime in January before we get to them. We bring them into a warmer area a day or two to thaw before we start to process them.
