This is a big budget anti-gun, gun control movie starring a leading actress in Hollywood. I guess the movie is about a gun control advocate/lobbyists who gets important gun control legislation passed. I guess this movie is the gun control version of 'Thank you for smoking'.

Too bad, I liked her acting in Interstellar and Zero Dark Thirty.

I didn't think gun control was a hot enough topic for Hollywood to make a movie about it. The movie is to be called 'Miss Sloane'.

JESSICA CHASTAIN’S GUN CONTROL THRILLER PICKED UP FOR DISTRIBUTION

by AWR HAWKINS13 Sep 2015

Jessica Chastain’s gun control thriller “Miss Sloane” has been picked up by EuropaCorp and production is set to begin in March 2016.

In the film–written by Jonathan Perera–Chastain will play a lobbyist who dedicates everything she has to securing passage of stricter gun control laws. Deadline described Chastain’s role by saying, “She would play the lead, the seasoned lobbyist who, with her small team of politicos, attempts to pass the hot-button legislation into federal law while going up against well-financed and unscrupulous members of the gun lobby.”

Hmmmm....an "anti-gun film" from the same people (EuropaCorp) who brought us:
Lucy, The Transporter (franchise), Columbiana, 3 Days To Kill, Lockout, and a host of other extremely violent movies.
EuropaCorp has made so many cheap thrills shoot 'em ups over the years that I have a hard time taking anything they put out seriously. They are an entertainment company.

Ditto to Pockets' post. Those were me thoughts when this post first went up.

As for whether this film will be a "blockbuster" or not remains to be seen. It will be interesting to see if it booms or bombs when it comes out. I'm out.

Production to start in March of 2016 . I wouldn't count on it being a blockbuster.

Blockbuster huh? We'll see about that. Every new movie and show on TV is loved by the critics, announced as the best ever and a sure winner for the whole family to enjoy. Then some large percentage of the "best shows ever" get cancelled and the movies flop like never before. Every new TV show and movie is touted as the best ever made and yet the public stays away in droves.

We just wait for them to show up on Netflix. Given an effective average "ticket" cost of $0.70, the last movie we saw in a theater was "Transformers 2007".

And we've just recently discovered "Person of Interest" and are about 3/4 through season one on streaming. There are a few others we like, but there are certain movies and TV shows we just don't watch. About 99% of them seem a pretty good estimate.

Ms. Chastain's new movie will have to survive, or not, without our money.

It's amusing all of the stridently anti-war films that kept getting made during the Bush administration... and failing MISERABLY at the box office.

Given the trends on public opinion of gun control, it seems like that somebody's going to lose a LOT of money on this picture...

Do we really need to use the absurd hyperbole of marketing hacks to "promote" the idiotic idea that an issues movie (especially one on "gun control" lobbyist) will be a "big budget" "blockbuster". C'mon, this is not a shy is falling moment.

There's no such thing as a big budget issues film that has people lined up around the block to see it. I would expect any action shoot'm'up to get more first weekend sales while this thing has a "limited release" in "select theaters" getting a footnote.

I for one can't wait for this movie. I'm really looking forward to getting preached at for two hours while listening to people talk on their cell phones. The best part will definitely be paying $25 for popcorn and a soda.

/sarcasm

It will likely go to the home video market a month after it's release, if it makes it that far. And it eventually find it's way to the 'discount bin' at Walmart for $2.99. Bloomberg and company will just write it off as a loss...

People who are anti gun will go see it. People who are pro gun will not go see it. No one will change their minds.

It's being pitched as a thriller. Most people will see a slick trailer about shadowy folks running around threatening a cute leading lady. That's what will put butts in seats. The majority of viewers will never realize they're being preached at, or won't care.

Meanwhile, the producers and actors congratulate themselves over creating such a fine political message. Wash, rinse and repeat. As others have predicted, it probably won't be particularly successful.

She's a no-name actress (I had no idea who she was, and I've seen both Interstellar and Zero Dark Thirty) leading in a film by a no-name screen writer, and it'll probably be a no-name director. These types of films struggle even with big names. Think Runaway Jury, based on a John Grisham novel with 4 major names (Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusak, Rachel Weisz), yet only a 61/100 meta score and $80M total BO sales. The film cost $60M to make.

So, yeah, I have to agree with Deanimator:

I wouldn't count on it breaking even.

Don't forgett that movie productions were the first legitimate way to soak investors for the costs. It's OPM - other people's money - and the result is often higher costs than selling revenues. Just like a lot of crowdfunding projects - soak the gullible, keep the money and run.

Kind of like the way Colt is going down in flames right now.

I would like to see even more big budget anti gun films. It would drain the resources of those disposed to support the agenda and take that money out of the hands of lobbyists who have politicians in their pockets.

Every anti-theme movie that goes fails is just further proof that the concept is a hard sell. If the masters of communication can't sell the message - like they do with action shoot 'em up movies - then it becomes ever more obvious.

Was "Bowling for Columbine" a huge success, or just a huge target for criticism among film critics?

I wouldn't get too worked up over it. We all tend to make more of something than it will become. Those ITAR regs haven't produced ATF agents confiscating TM's at gun shows. Yet.

Oh really?

Interesting that anti-gun head of Miramax, Harvey Weinstein, was word vomiting in the press a year and a half ago that he a Meryl Streep were going to be making an "anti-gun blockbuster". Never happened. Wonder if this is the same crappy script? Interestingly enough, anti-gun agit-prop doesn't sell, violence and gun play does. I work in Hollywood, you have to love the hypocrisy of uber rich producers and actors who have highly paid armed bodyguards 24/7, who also make their very healthy living through the glorification of mindless violence in the form of entertainment, spouting off about how it is a crime that American's natural, civil and Constitutional rights are the worse thing that has ever happened in our society. Bunch of idiots.

At the end of the day, liberals don't get that the USA is a militaristic nation, born of, advanced by and sustained through wars. I think most Americans get this at a gut level.

Also, the USA is a competitive nation that likes to win...

Remember

"Shoot um Up", that was a pretty big ANTI - GUN movie and it was ALL about shooting.

But it was all about how bad guns & violence are ?.

Funny how Hollyweird and all the others that make SO much money showing all the horrible ways to use a gun ---- are SO much against guns !

Michael Moore [ aka Jaba the Hut ] made a few movies that went TOTALLY NOWHERE.

So I bet this waste of time & effort go the very same route.

True. Big-Budget intellectual films are rarely blockbusters. Remember the pro-abortion comedy "Obvious Child" which was supposed to be "ground-breaking". If you don't remember it, it's because it flopped.

Just feeds into the current gun control narrative: the US would be a violence-free utopia if it weren't for a shadowy, money-grubbing "gun lobby" that is somehow able to flood the streets with their evil wares.

Jonathan Perera–Chastain....ha! Nice hyphen bud.

Movie will tank because antis are afraid to go into movie theatres.
