For me its my wife.
She is a small framed model, 5'6" 105 or so lbs.
She has decided that my ruger mark II is her ruger mark II.
She feels more confident with it, than her pretty little pink ladysmith.
She does C&C her lady smith.

We do feel that our favorite gravel pit is a little safer for all. Largely due to the fact that my main function is loading magazines, and replacing targets.
She agree's that in a HD scenario, her only job is to keep pulling the trigger until my/her mark II, stops going bang. Then reload and call 911.

Mine has not yet warmed up to anything bigger than a .22LR pistol. A Taurus PT-22 and a Taurus Model 94 are stowed for her access at home. She does not carry.

My wife was 5-3, 108# and she loved to shoot a 4" S&W Model 10 with factory wadcutters, my old police department duty gun. Having been attacked by hot brass she didn't like that so didnt like semi autos. She was a very good point shooter.

S&W 386 Nightguard loaded with Speer 135g +P Gold Dots. She had no issues running the gun through a 2 day defensive handgun course. It's chambered for .357 but she shoots .38s in it exclusively.

I'm building a lightweight AR and have an M1 Carbine. She hasn't shot them but either would be a better option for HD than the revolver if she liked them.

Wow, what a great bunch of responses, so far.
My wife is very pleased to know that even though not all wives are willing to defend themselves. She does see that some are just like her.
She does realize that her .38 ladysmith does have more of a bite than my/her mark II. She believes me when I tell her the best HD weapon of choice is the one she feels the most confident and or comfortable with to get the job done.
Thank you all and We are looking forward to reading any and all further responses.

The wife typically packs either a W. German SIG P-228 (her favorite), a S&W M&P-9C or when, she's going for concealment, her SIG P-238 Extreme.

And, she's got her own Colt M-4 for the nights that I'm at work ... Yeah, she likes guns, too.

S&W model 19 loaded with .38 +P. Not my first choice but she shoots it well and is comfortable with its operation.

We have a Sig P220 and Sig M400 pistol for HD. The M400 is her firearm of choice for HD.

In her purse , my wife carries her Browning 1911-380, and can shoot it very well.
When she drives more than just a shopping run, she has a SA Loaded 1911......and she SURE knows how to shoot it...was the pistol she used to qualify for her CCW!

My wife is a former LEO and has carried a S&W J-frame .38 special for over 40 years. Shooting that little gun over the years have caused arthritis in the joint in her thumb to the point that she doesn't like to shoot the little gun anymore.

Last week we went shopping and she came home with a Kahr 45ACP as a carry gun.
One more round and a pretty salty one in a little gun.

I was concerned with the recoil and muzzle blast of the larger cartridge, but she took to it like a duck to water.
You wouldn't want to get crosswise with her if she is packin' that little rascal.

I was sufficiently impressed with the little gun that I went and got one for myself Thursday. It's kinda handy with both of us carrying the same gun, spare magazines etc.

I have been carrying a modified WWI vintage S&W 45ACP revolver.
In my case, the change in weight from that big old hunk of iron is taking a little getting use to.
I keep floating off the ground.

Oh yeah, there's that cocked and locked 12 gauge in the closet too.

My present girlfriend is pretty decent with her cast iron frying pan.:p She had a run in with a local idiot and "whacked" him good on the back porch:D and lets just say I am glad she did not have to resort to using a firearm as she is a way better shot than I am. Don't ever try to steel a just baked pie from her.

I can imagine ,Iggy. But with your thousands of acres of Wyoming range, the old .45ACP must feel very comforting.

The only thing I've gotten my wife to shoot is a .22 and a 686 with .38 specials. She shot it well enough.

My wife has a short barrel 16ga. pump and ,a snub nose 357 with a ported barrel.

My wife is old, and handicapped. She tells me..."Go get 'em tiger."

But she has a Smith & Wesson 642 and a heavy cane to back me up. Don't laugh. She's killed one large Rhode Island Red roster with that cane.

wife: telephone

16yo daughter: anything she can get her hands on, loves my H&K p9s, but I'm on the lookout for a nice sig 232 for her
17yo son (6'4", 190 lbs) choses my h&k USP Match in 45acp any day and twice on sundays

After years of trying to get my wife to "train" for HD I've given up (sort of).

Initially I kept a .45ACP (1911,then SIG220ST) and a 12GA (Benelli M1S90) for HD. Realizing that out in the county there's a better chance of her having to use an HD gun than me, I had to find something she'd actually shoot. She really didn't like the recoil of either, and flat out wouldn't shoot them much. So I've downsized to what she will shoot, which is a S&W M&P 5" "Pro" in 9mm with SureFire X400 light/laser, and my Colt LE6920 in 5.56. Both she can shoot pretty well.

To train the AR I bought a S&W M&P15-22 and a Colt 6951 in 9mm and set them up like my AR6920. With either the .22LR or the 9mm we can shoot plates on my range at HD distances. I also bought another M&P 5" "Pro" for a range gun. Monthly we have a family "shootout" out back when my 12 year old challenges my wife. She's now gotten fairly decent with both the pistol and carbine.

SP101 3'' barrel in her night stand. She really prefers my M&P9. She likes the idea of 17 shots....lol.
I've never had her shoot full house loads out of either. I figure what she doesn't know won't hurt her.
