Saw a neat Beretta Tomcat .32 at a shop.

But I've heard of frame cracking with the older Tomcats.

They say the "wide slide" version does not have that problem.

Does anyone know the serial range where they started making it or some way to tell if it is one them?

Thanks,

I've read about problems with the new models too. That and Beretta refusing to fix them.

Assuming the frame is made of aluminum alloy it very understandable that they would crack.

I had two crack a few years ago. Beretta replaced the first one and gave me a choice of another model after the second one cracked. I would stay away.

Broken firing pins are common. Back when I was a regular on the Beretta forum Tomcat threads had two flavors "You'll be sorry" followed by "I'm sorry". I was sorry.
Get something else.

Why don't they just make this thing with a steel frame, I know it would be heavier but I would like it better if I could choose (unfortunately not in NYC for me.) Are there many people who would too?

It does not meet the standard for a concealed carry pistol because of it's large size for a small caliber round and I am sure more weight would tame recoil a little if not so much.

I looks like a fun gun to own, plink with, and fondle, why not make it work properly. I have heard steel is cheaper to deal with than some of the light weight aluminum alloys and I think this thing would be neat in all mirror polished stainless steel or blued steel.

Of coures another question is would using steel solve the problem or is this design in .32 cal. that bad.

I'd have though a titanium or polymer frame. But I guess the new slimmer .380s and .32s have done in the Tomcat concept.

Pity they don't make a polymer frame 950, but just a tad larger, in .32.
