Altamont synthetic ivory grips

They have a bright polished finish. Never tried roughing them up or dying them yellow. They do have a heavy, substantial feel to them. Not like cheap plastic at all. Far as I know, they're actually bonded ivory.

CraigC, thanks for the feedback.

I buffed down some Ajax grips before and they now look and feel like real ivory, but they don't weigh much. (They also crack like the real thing.) I think I just used a 3M pad, don't recall actually sanding to get the finish knocked down.

My 62 Colt isn't in great cosmetic shape but it shoots just fine. It's got aftermarket composite rosewood grips that I don't much care for and I am wanting a more 'lived in look'.

I put a set of their bonded ivory stocks on my model 29. They are a little smoother than I would prefer for a 44 mag, but I have not tried to scuff them up.

Rob, I've purchased two sets of their bonded ivory grips, one set to be used to replace the factory magnas on my M 27-2, no need to beat up the factory grips. 18 months and several hundred rounds of .357 Magnum ammo later they have held up well, and are still nice and smooth.
The second set was for my 2 1/2" M-66. These fit well and looked nice, but after less than 6 months and several hundred rounds of 38 special +P ammo the horn (upper portion) of the left grip, started to chip, and had to be thrown out. I replaced both grips with a nice set of stags.

Both grips look good but I prefer the stags.

Is "bonded" ivory like "bonded leather"? That is, they grind up ivory scraps into particles, then bond them together with glue? Such products can be very useful, but they usually aren't as durable as the original - like the way concrete isn't as durable as granite.

I bet they'd be swell on a nice 22 or 32, though.
