Have you ever been shamed for the brand of firearm that you have purchased? I have got the itch for a pistol caliber carbine and have seriously considered the Highpoint 9mm. Discussing this with my gun friends has garnered much criticism. I understand that it is not a "go to war type gun". This gun will take the roll of toy/entertainment piece like many others in my safe. I have the financial means to purchase a more expensive piece but don't see the need. I don't hunt so other than maybe 20% of my collection that is designated for CCW and home defense the rest are guns just for fun. Now in the end I don't care what others think and will purchase what I want. I will laugh a little when out shooting and those individuals will ask to shoot the High Point over one of my AR's that are worth 7 or 8 times as much.

P.S. I will not however ever buy one of their handguns. Good lord I have seen cheap power tools from harbor freight that are lighter and better looking.

Just ignore the rants of firearm snobs. They are increasing their sense of self at your expense.

Does the pistol go bang?, does it place the bullet where you want?, is it at a price you can afford?. If it does all this, then who cares about the opinions of those idiots.

I think it's appropriate in cases like HS Precision and Ruger.

(edit: over the Horiuchi and AWB support debacles)

I will end up getting one now just to antagonize some of my friends. However I do find the people that believe every firearm should be battle tested and trustworthy enough to bet your life on peculiar. Like I said in the original Thread most of my guns are purchased for entertainment. I know guns are serious but to me many are toys. Possibly dangerous toys that need to be respected but toys none the less.

Gitcha one and enjoy it! Who cares what people think or say? I have three HP carbines, they may not be pretty but they shoot and shoot and shoot.....

Yes. In this very post of yours actually. See below:

If you're willing to pay $1,500 plus on an AR, why not buy a higher quality PCC to scratch that itch you recently experienced?

It would seem from the language on many firearm forums, a noted increase in "Operator's", Gun Guru's, Warcraft Gaming Wizbang Wizards and such. It just seems there are so many "experts" to toss opinions of any gun made these days, more times then not these people do not know what they are talking about.
Buy what you like and enjoy, no reason to limit yourself. I just picked up an H&R Shakara Mod 155 in .44mag, simply because it looked like something fun.

I was only kidding about the handgun comment. The AR was purchased with the intent to possibly be used as home defense but that is a different topic in itself. I suppose the reasoning of not spending more on the pistol caliber carbine was to test the waters and see if I like it. I suppose if I enjoy the rifle I may invest in something more.

Closest I can think of is being told that my guns are too old to be shot and will probably explode if I fire them too much. They're mostly Mauser 98s or one flavor or another (including one small-ring 98 Mexican 1910) along with some Mosins, and a couple of 1903's thrown in for good measure. They might have a point with low-number 1903s, but I don't have any of those.

Matt

I get it for liking the Surplus guns. After I picked up a real nice Swiss 1896/11

"Oh god, another old bolt gun, you need something modern"

I like the old stuff. New Stuff just doesn't have any appeal to me. All my friends enjoy the AR platform, I'd be more happy with the G3. They all want whatever new fad gun is on the market, I'd take an old WWII bolt action or Semi-auto over any of them any day of the week.

Meh, buy what you like. I am partial to my cheap Russian shotguns made by Baikal. I get funny looks shooting trap, but they always go bang when I pull the trigger (and that includes in the snow at elevations above 9,000 feet at some pretty nasty temperatures) and if I miss it is not the guns fault.

I could give the furry crack of a rats behind about how others feel. I buy guns for my enjoyment. Not theirs.

I've shot the Highpoint carbine and it was a ton of fun. If they came with higher capacity mags that were reliable, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I've had a few major brand-name firearms that I really liked, but found to be unreliable. I did have a Firestorm Commander sized 1911. Yeah, I felt a little sheepish with the brand, but the gun was rock solid and dependable.

My 1st gun was a Ruger Blackhawk back in 1976(?). My 1st time at the range and another guy showed up with a Smith M27 and told me something to the effect that he would wear my gun out. I guess I was shamed and I didn't know any different. I had a HP 9 rifle before and it was a blast to shoot. So, have at it.

Hi Point firearms are really ugly, really really dependable/accurate, and guaranteed forever to the current owner. I like them so much they fill the roll as a great truck gun for me. I own many trucks/cars and they ALL have one stashed in it.:D I bought a few of them because the pres said we needed to get cheap guns off the streets. I gave a few good homes. I do not listen to most of the noise about good and bad firearms.:scrutiny:

As a member of the high school ROTC rifle team, those who could afford Winchester 52s looked sideways at my Remington 513T, but I was competitive nonetheless. A few in Cowboy action shooting circles criticize my Ruger Old Armies as historically incorrect. But they are legal for competition and fun to shoot.

One of the nice things about being a geezer is you don't care much about the opinions of others like maybe when you were a kid.

I was embarassed for the gent that was my financial advisor when he brought a new rifle and his son to our club's sight in days. He just couldn't get it to group for beans. I took hold of the rifle to see if I could get it to shoot. It was a POS rifle with a horrid trigger and bolt action that felt like sandpaper. I thought to myself "with what you are charging me for your services couldn't you have bought a better rifle for your son?"

It matters zero to me what others think. All my like minded buddies see charm in anything that you find enjoyment with, pertaining to firearms. As for the interweb, that makes us all ninja warrior experts. Thought everyone knew that!!

The person supplying the funds is the only opinion that counts......... The facts afterwards may differ depending upon expectations and experience but if there is no skin in the game there is no reason for supervision. Just my $.02...

A disease or simple accident could put any of us into a wheelchair, or "six feet under" next month. Decent gun buddies (especially friends) will be muted, or diplomatic in their ridicule.

Some people need to feel superior, or want to prepare you for an ISIS/DAESH attack against your home.
They've probably watched The Road Warrior too many times (or Red Dawn).

gfpd707 - there is nothing wrong with pistol caliber rifles, esp. if you have the handgun to go with it.

I have a Ruger GP-100 in .357 Magnum and a Marlin 1894 levergun to go with it. Two guns - one ammo. Of course, you also have the advantage of being able to shoot lighter loads with the .38 Specials. :D

You'll enjoy the Hi Point carbine, I've got one in 40 S&W and its a hoot! I could care less what other people think about it. It'll print a 4" group at 50 yards off-hand, plus my rounds gain about 300 fps, what's not to like?

The left likes to call the AR a "weapon of war". Whatever, they are a lot of fun to shoot and just plain cool in my opinion. They can call it whatever they want, don't care.
