Found a deal in the Shotgun News: a Sig-Sauer p220 for $379, used, from Kieslers' Wholesale. I'm guessing a police trade-in, correct?

Bottom line is, I have about $350 saved up - I'm 15. I can either save up my cash and by myself a handgun, or wait till I graduate or get my Eagle Scout. I've been leaning more towards a 1911 (Colt NRM) or Beretta (of course, whichever way I'm leaning as far as handguns go changes weakly), but I've heard great things about the P220s. Go or no go? Should I just wait and save up the $500 for the NRM?

Can't really go wrong with a Sig, (other than feeding that monster, and finding mags) but the 1911 is also a god pistol and can be had in various forms. Norinco M1911A1's are a very good buy for the money, and finding a used one shouldn't be too hard.

I hope that the folks are involved some how in this transaction?

Wow, 15 and trying to buy a pistol. If you have not already, I would strongly recommend a training course. As for the gun, I would actually go for the Sig P220. I have several Sigs, and love them all. For that price, it does sound like a police trade in, but that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe you should visit/post at sigfourm.com and check the responces you get from there. Sig's are extremely reliable and accurate, well most of the accuracy comes from the shooter. Anyhow I wouldn’t trade any of my Sigs, those are the best pistols I ever had. Just check it out before you buy. I actuall bought a used P229 .40 and it's my favorite out of the three Sigs. I bought it for about $350-$400, had it refinished for $100 and looks brand new.

$379 for a P220 is a good price and is more than likely a police trade-in.
If you're unsure, give Kieslers' a call.

Go or no go? Should I just wait and save up the $500 for the NRM?

You seem to have your heart set on the 1911 NRM or a Beretta.
How difficult is cash to come by?

If it's taken you a while to save your $350 then I'd advise you to save for what you have your heart set on.

Sigs are fine pistols and the P220 is my favorite .45ACP, but if that's not what your heart desires then you're doing yourself a disservice.

How much do you shoot? A pistol is a serious purchase compared to getting into other forms of recreation (dare I say hobby?), especially if you later decide it's not for you. Unless you're absolutely serious about things, I would lay off purchasing any firearm for awhile.

That's what I'm doing. Right now I'm an enthusiast who would like to turn shooting into a fully fledged hobby; something I am serious about and thoroughly enjoy. I won't buy a firearm until I feel confident that I am committed to this sport. You should consider doing something similar; if you demonstrate maturity about something like this it provides a compelling argument for your parents to purchase the firearm as a reward.

Good luck on the Eagle Scout by the way; welcome to the flock.

I love shooting- I probably make it to the range once a month. Mostly I shoot rifles (Mini-14, K-31, and 10/22). I have a revovler (Colt Officers Model .38 Target), but I prefer autoloaders. As I said, I have my heart set on a NRM, but that changes a lot. Sometimes I find myself lusting over a BHP, or CZ-75, or (gulp), Glock. I'm looking for something with good quality and price.

You mention that your mind keeps changing, however it seems you really want a pistol. If you are like most of us you will always want one more. It doesn't get any better than the 220. I love mine. I say go for it.

Don't forget to figure in the price of ammo. You might also add a good .22 to the list of possibles.

The frist handgun I bought was an early Springfield loaded. I got it back in 99. I love it. It is not the tiest 1911 in the world and it rattles alot but it shoots like a top.

The only Sig I have shoot is a 226 in 40 Great gun. It felt well made and for a DA trigger it was great.

While I am currently looking for a 9mm so I can shoot more for the same amount of money my 1911 always goes to the range and is always on my side when I go to my properties in the mountains. I trust it with my life.

Save up and get exactly what you want and never get rid of it (if it runs good)

I got my Eagle back in 94, stay the coarse not many do. Good luck and stay safe.

I'll have five Berettas soon -- great gun. If you find yourself posting this question, maybe you need to save more for the gun you want. I wouldn't rush a purchase -- you might find a great deal on the gun you want and have no money when you see it.
