M1 Carbine, The gun comes with 2 GI 15 rounds and 2 30 rounds mags. Its an Underwood with Underwood barrel marked 42. I thought this was a fair buy at what I can get it for. The mags have to be worth 40 bucks for all of them or more. Sling and oil bottle must be worth another 30 bucks. What would the rifle be worth?

I am not sure its an online buy. Seller has it on one of the auctions sights. He said it was a good bore and has a 3 day inspection.

Import mark lowers the value a bit. The gauge of the barrel will also effect value. IMHO. The market for M1 Carbines is all over the place. I am no expert but I think in the $800-$1000 range is fair.

Around here, NE Ohio at the shows, the M1 Carbines in good shape, original GI, an Underwood or similar would bring in about $800 to $1,000. Pretty much the same as post #8 mentions.

Condition will determine price and just how bad you want it. WVsig is correct at around $800.00. The mags are a bonus unless they are junk after market mags. Good Luck!

How does the bore and chamber look? If the bore is bright the $800 range would be good for me, but if the rifling is badly worn or there is corrosion then I would not be so interested.

I just sold an Inland import for $650. It had some non USGI parts like a repro stock and slide. I think everything else was USGI. The reason I sold it was the muzzle gauged 2.5. Though accuracy was acceptable, I wanted it a little better than it was. I have another one that shoots about 4 moa which I think is pretty good for an M1 carbine. That one guages at 1.5 and hasn't been recrowned.

You did pretty well on the price. $800 is too high for a gun like yours. JMO. In a few years it will be an $800 gun. We won't see anymore from the Army or imported in any significant numbers.

you got a good buy. Bore should be good, I don't think carbine ammo was ever loaded with corrossive primers.

tark,

Since this is a Blue Sky and likely Korean service imported in the late 1980s it likely has not seen any corrosive ammo.

Some of the no import stamp guns ( like the CMP/NRA guns of the early 1960s and the duffle bag guns) may well have been used with the French Berdan 7.5mm carbine ammo imported in the 1960s. It was apparently corrosive. This is why one always jacks the action open and tilts the gun muzzle down and muzzle up and back a few times to listen for the gas piston. A good many got rusted in place.

Other than being corrosive, I had no problems with the French ammo. It was about one half the cost of GI stuff and a lot cheaper than Winchester or Remington.

Coal train: You sure that reading wasn't a re-build counterbore?
I'm not sure.

I was using a Fulton Armory gauge. I think 2.5 on that gauge is .325 at the muzzle. It had been recrowned. I've read that the arsenal replaced the barrels with muzzle wear at .330.

It didn't hold a very good group at any rate. The guy I sold it to had a new barrel for it.

I sold my 1943 Inland last fall. Though not an import, it looked like it had been through WWII twice. It sold on GB starting at $0.01 without a reserve and it went for $1125. Two guys decided they had to have it. The fellow that won it was tickled pink.

The moral to the story is this:
Something is only worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it on a given day.

BTW, I think you did just fine. Import or not. ;)
