lcr pocket holster size?

I had to return my first pocket pistol holster because it did not fit right. The one I use now is not the one the mfg recommended. The first one could have been in the wrong package. Maybe the one I have was in the wrong package as well. Who knows.
I bought the one I use at a store that sold the same gun, and I was able to test it for proper fit. Not all stores can do this. Some will not take the trigger lock off of their guns for holster testing.

Why buy a "generic fit" holster and not one made for your gun? Here are just two examples of what they would look like, one leather and one kydex.

This is going to come as a big shock to some, but my pocket holsters intended for use with a double-action revolver deliberately leave the trigger guard uncovered.

This of course goes against today's conventional thinking, but the necessity to cover the trigger guard idea originated with folks that were more into pistols then revolvers.

Experienced revolver shooters don't carry with the hammer cocked (at least I hope not) but the truth is that if they did and the hammer fell on a mainline makers hand-ejector you wouldn't hear a loud BANG! unless the trigger was held rearward while the hammer went down. When the hammer is down and the trigger forward it takes about a 12-pound pull (more or less) to self-cock and fire the gun, which is highly unlikely to happen.

Leaving the trigger guard uncovered reduces the bulk of a pocket holster - which can be important to reduce the chance of printing, and allows the user to get their finger along side of the trigger while making the draw.

So this is a matter of "too each his/her own" when making a decision.

And yes, it is generally better to buy (or make) holsters to specifically fit the intended handgun. However you don't want a pocket holster to be so tight that they're is a chance that when making a draw the holster will come along with the gun.

The sizing for generic holsters by Blackhawk, Uncle Mike's (and others) seems to be more of a suggestion than anything. The #2 size is supposed to be the correct holster for J-frames, but the #3 works much better.

I have a drawer full of generic nylon and leather pocket holsters, but the ones I actually use are made by Robert Mika. I have both the round and square cut for small revolvers and recently had him make one for a Glock 26. His holsters are inexpensive, last for years and most importantly, work great.
