I want to get one that is good and following previous threads in the past its going to be the Giruard. Here is the kicker for hand gun/pistol. and then rifle. Don't get me wrong I want a good tool to use. It will be used for multiple rifles I own also, 25.06 .270 mostly but I want to also toy around w/Hand gun. Make sense? I know their might be better choices perhaps but?

I don't think I understand your question. I use an RCBS hand trimmer that requires three different collets to hold almost every shell casing made and a pilot for the diameter of the neck. It has worked great for over 40 years.

The Giraud is an excellent trimmer for bottleneck rifle calibers, but, as it indexes off the shoulder I do not believe it will work for pistol calibers.

Also, the amount of labor involved in trimming pistol calibers is usually much less, as resizing does not cause an increase in case length, so the use of a standard manual trimmer is more feasible.

I use my Giraud for .243 and .30-06, don't trim .45ACP at all, and use a Hornady trimmer for one-time trimming .44 Mag to achieve a uniform crimp.

I can't imagine taking the time to trim pistol cases and can't imagine shooting enough 25/06 or .270 to justify a Giraud (they aren't cheap) If you were loading a ton of 223/5.56 or .308 I could see the Giraud. I have a Giraud and they are top of the line, just pricey for occasional use.

How about wheel gun cases? Trim/no trim? Let me edit this I guess it would be the most universal for say revolvers/bottle neck rifle. As steel H. has mentioned a collet per caliber? I Have to research a bunch more I will admit. but just wondering. Lil. crow etc.. I no I want one of the Girauds.

I use the Little Crow WFT for .308 and .223; works fine with a drill press. For hunting rifle cartridges, I use a hand-crank RCBS. Never trimmed a pistol brass...

I use the Dillon AT1200. I've never had to trim pistol cases. Dillon requires a size/ trim die for each caliber. Very fast, .30-06,.308,8mm, .30-30, .223 and .303. RCBS bench mount for other calibers.

I went the route of the cheap SOB and use Lee case trimmers. Not nearly as convenient as other trimmers, but it works fine on pistol and rifle brass unless you intend to trim large quantities.

I have a Giraud and love it. That said, the way it's made, straight walled pistol brass won't work in it. I don't think they even offer shellholders for them. It's awesome on all bottle necked rifle brass though! Only thing I've had trouble with is .30 Carbine. That takes some extra parts and time, but works well.

If you are shooting max level straight walled revolver loads, trimming cases to the same length can be beneficial. It makes for a uniform crimp case to case since they are all the same length.

That said, I rarely trim my revolver cases and never my semi-auto pistol cases.

For trimming straight walled cases, I use either the Lee trimmers or a trim die. I have a couple handgun cartridge case holders for my Wilson/Sinclair trimmer but have never used them yet. Maybe one of these days.

The Giraud is nice for trimming bottle neck rifle cases.

Thanks fella's! I think what I will do is start off small. It will be .38 in my .357 . Think its a 8.3/8" barrel Mid range/load not magnum because of powder choice? I passed up a few #'s of H110 but I will have to get my head back in the books! Thank U. Arch F.G. you got my wheels spun.(have to polish the set of dies .38/.357 I got off our BST/trade forum. Edit thank all of you guys!

I have never trimmed a pistol case, but I am happy with the "Trim It" for my rifle brass.
