Today at the range I saw a setup 2 guys put together to view their shots in real time and remotely! I saw it in action at 500yds and it worked excellent, and they said it should have at least a 1000yd range. I was so impressed that I just ordered some components to build a setup of my own. No more walking down range to see my hits! It uses a transmitter and receiver intended for an aerial drone... I have $272 invested in the setup. That includes the transmitter and receiver, 9" portable tv, alligator clips, and an a/v cable. .. I can't wait to get everything in and running! I'll give a review after I test the limits of the gear...

Please make sure your transmitter frequency isn't interfering with model R/c aircraft, or other legal drone users in your area.

Nothing more maddening then putting a $1,000 R/C aircraft into a smoking hole in the ground because some idjit turned on another radio a half mile away to drive his $50 R /c toy car on an aircraft frequency!!!

Farmerboy, can you give some details of what you are doing? I might like to copy your plans. I have a spare r/c aircraft transmitter and receiver that I can use for the project already.

You know, most of the ranges in Europe and lots of the higher end ones here (college shooting teams) have gone to electronic scoring. Safer and faster to shoot (no cease fires), don't need a spotting scope, and cheaper in the long run (the bull is just an open black hole, the scoring rings are generated electronically so no paper or backstops to replace).

That is very nice, but where I'm at the technology is not available. So this is the best thing I can find!

You have spent about half the price of a commercial target camera.
Carry on.

Everybody wants to shoot at long range without stopping to think how they will know what they hit.
This is The Answer for all the guys who want to shoot their Mosy at a thousand metres.

I'm pretty sure nowadays you can just get a cheap drone to do what you want. You don't really even have to fly it. Just point the camera at the target

Eta you could buy a cheap pay as you go mobile wifi hotspot and wifi cam for under $100 and view your target from your smartphone

But WiFi won't reach 1000yds or am I missing something

Yes

You aren't viewing the camera on the same wifi you are uploading with.

Baby monitors allow for this kind of remote viewing so parents across town can look in with their smartphones to see if the sitter did their job

But in order for this to work your range will have to have 4g coverage at both ends

I don't think so.
That is the point of the camera with radio link, you can put it 20 feet from a 1000 yard target.
I do not know of optics that will resolve bullet holes at true long ranges.

+1.
I was thinking this just the other day. My son and I are just starting to push out over 500 Yards, and even with the shoot-n-see targets, and our spotting scope, it can be hard to tell where hits are.

I'd really like to see what you get put together!

That's totally the point, a working system that anyone can afford and nearly anyone can put together... at a sub $300 price point and the range you can reach it is hard to beat!

I have used a remote camera that I use on my RC aircraft for viewing targets down range.

Using a DVD player and booster vision TX/RX. Guess I didn't make for sure it was OK with my aircraft first but expected it was OK and it was (using old non PCM Airtronics controls).

The camera/TX is in the center of the photo connected to the 9v battery. The RX (directional) to the 12 volt deer feeder battery with AV cable to the DVD player.

The setup was around $100 back then and I have hooked it into a camcorder before to record videos. Works great line of sight but that is about it. Good for flying or shooting though.

Looks like they are not in business anymore but you might look here.

Never uploaded any videos of mine but they were not unlike this one.

Except just engine and wind noise.

This link suggest you can get 2-4 miles out of them but that is better results that I had with the one I bought (different system).

Or just use Facetime with your and your shooting buddy's iPhones.

I use my phone as a ballistic calculator so I can't tie it up that way. Some of my parts were delivered today! Hopefully I can get started soon with the assembly process...
