Form follows function. I have never owned an AK, even back when they were cheap as dirt. I find them ergonomically challenged and I hate the sights. To me the AK/AR argument was never 22 vs 30, it was peep vs V-notch.

This might be an improvement.

there are those who like every new rifle that comes on the market (though most will never buy them) and then those of us who can see most of them for the gimmicks they are

i doubt they'll be able to sell these at a price higher than existing AKs and still make profits... if im going to pay over $1,200 for an AK dressed up like an AR id just get a sig 556 or galil ACE

also, the side rail on the AK is a really good system, you can mount tube style red dots low enough to get a 1/3 co witness with your sights and still be able to open the dust cover and disassemble the rifle without moving it.. the only time the side mount becomes an issue or suboptimal is when manufacturers of certain types of sights decide to go with integrated picatinny bases set up for the AR height top rail.. so nothing particularly wrong with the system as it is, just a problem with a pandering section of the aftermarket

this only seems to be a problem with certain crowds of individuals with very little experience with firearms and so they all feel every rifle out there has to be exactly like that ONE theyve used before... not everything has to function like an AR and with every design feature there are going to be tradeoffs

Commie should look commie is my thought

I can understand that, I guess.

But what if it's a made-in-the-USA piece? Like this one?

Personally, except for the pistol grip, I'm cautiously optimistic. The major advantages the AR-15 has had over the AK has always been accuracy and ergonomics. If the ergos are better, who can/should be upset?

It's ugly. It is also, no doubt, a very effective platform for what it is intended to do, protect the life of it's owner in a gunfight. That makes it beautiful. I think I'll buy one.

It is ugly, and looks cheap. Nothing I'd be interested in, but I'm sure it works fine.

I'm a traditionalist when it comes to AKs. In fact, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to just about everything gun related.

this is why its clearly a mistake to have "kalashnikov usa" run things, its apparent those working at this company are far more AR biased that theyve even attempted to turn the AK into one, it'll alienate the AK fans and i cant imagine too many will buy it, and the AR fans already have ARs, so convincing them to purchase these will also be an effort in futility

this is why almost every AK/AR hybrid type rifle has failed miserably except for the sig 551 which owes its success to decades of military service with the swiss

like the arak, like the ARK, this will be another failure

Of late AKs have gone from their traditional role of being less expensive and worse than ARs to being more expensive and worse than ARs. I don't see any evidence this will change that.

Ugly to me is a 4" group at 100 yds and I dont care what the rifle looks like if it is shooting sub 1.5" groups.

V-notch sites didnt seem to bother Simo Hayha.

As a fan of the 7.62x39 round and former SKS/AK shooter (now have the round in a bolt action), this gun looks pretty brilliant to me. I would bet money a lot of our service men and women would trade their M4's for one of these.

No more ugly than all of the current AR offerings by the "Big Name" and other manufacturers, Imnho! Having said that, I think they are ALL UGGGLY!:what:

I tend to like the looks of the old M1 Carbine that I used in the service, and the Ruger Mini-14. To me, they just look mo' bettah! 'Course, I are a Dinosaur !:D
