Thought I would share a little about my latest "shoestring" rifle project. I have about $500 in the rifle. The scope is a Leupold 2 x 7 that weighs 9.5 oz. The rifle has a couple of hundred rounds without any problems. The 5 shot group is generic 123g bullets over 27.5g 1680. The 3 shot group is barnes 123g tsx over 27.5g 1680. The chrono results were either side of 2500 fps. Groups were shot off bench at 100 yds.

That's an impressive price. Are you going to hunt with it or just plink (or both)? Either way, enjoy!

Not bad. I just picked up my first AR15 yesterday for $500 out the door (Radical Firearms FGS-12). I'll have to see how it shoots once I get it kitted out.

Have that same scope on my bolt action 7.62x39. It's a great scope.

Agree on the scope. I have lots of different leupold scopes and I think that little 2 x 7 does most of what the larger scopes do with a lot less. I was wondering what length of barrel on your 7.62 bolt rifle? Have you ever chrono'd any rounds out of it.
