Help with the FNH 5.7x28

If you use good handloading practices and full length size them, you ought to be fine. I have heard that you have to trim almost every time but other than that, people get into trouble trying to push it or with double charges. The guns are blowback which is usually very forgiving but in this case they have built them with rather light bolt/slides, the slide on the pistol being even more on the light side. So, my recommendation is to work up loads until the pistol likes them and stick with it.

Do not polish, leave coating alone. Soap or a little simple green is your friend. I Trim and load with cfe pistol in the latest and have had good luck. Hornady sizing dies worked best for me.

I have been curious about this round. Is that coating on the cases some kind of lacquer? If so, how does it survive repeated trips through the sizing die?

The coating on the brass has nothing to do with feeding, it is merely a preservative found only on FN ammo, other companies load the 5.7 and they do not have it. It may change they way a particular load extracts, slightly, but if you work up your loads with or without it, they will work fine.

25, do you have any good loads for the 5.7 you would recommend. Also curious about your thoughts on the coating, I have never seen 5.7 ammo without it. Does anyone else make it besides fn and federal that I am missing?

I'll tell you one sure thing about the coating....if the coating is scratched up on reloaded ammo, it WILL cause feeding issues.

Some people swear by completely removing the coating. I haven't tried it personally. When I reload a batch of 5.7x28 I carefully inspect the brass. Any that have the coating scratch either go in the scrap bucket or put into a "rainy day" stash. I've tested ammo with a scratched coating, factory and reloaded, and it always causes issues. But I haven't gone as far as tested ammo with zero coating.
