Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill... NC in it's entirety

I'm trying to get one together out at SSI south of Louisburg, but got to join and then ask the board if I can hold some sort of group shoot there as my guests. Failing that, if Taipei Personality offered up The Range in oxford then that would do just as well. Both are about an hour from Raleigh and I would plan on making a day of it with a cookout and everything. Also while I'm not a formal instructor I have taught close quarters Draw and Engage with pistol, shooting while moving with pistol and rifle, alternate shooting positions with rifle, and draw from concealment for those who are interested and have at least a solid grasp of basic firearms handling, and marksmanship (not for first time shooters)

Guys,
I am slam covered up right now, and prolly will be well into July...If ya have something going around that time, then count me in...

PS
I live about 20 minutes from Greensboro, so RDU wouldnt be a big deal... Somebody lemme know...:D

I am interested in a NC gathering/shoot. I have "on-call" periods at my job, so I couldn't absolutely guarantee whether or not I could even come to the gathering; but it sounds like a great idea!

Quick update

I've been trying to contact the owner of The Range in Oxford to see if it's possible to have a shoot there. No responses after a week or two, SO.

Does anyone have any ideas about an outdoor range where we can all get together to have some fun, bring the families and let the kids shoot too? Anybody have 20 acres and a hill to shoot against? I'm open for just about any weekend I'm not actively competing and would love to get together with a bunch of TFL/THR folks. If we can find a venue, then I'll be more than happy to handle the logistics.

Well just was up in Oxford at the range Sat. to run the classifier, and have to say that they are gearing up for the IDPA Carolina Cup on June 12 so I'd say the that is the reason why they haven't responded. Well I'm still working on my deal with SSI but gotta go to the monthly board meeting for a intro.............

We shall see.

WhiteKnight- so you're an NCSU student, too, I take it? I'm a ME senior, NROTC midshipman.

Anyway, WRT a NC shoot sometime, I'd be interested, although honestly finding time could be hard for me. In about a week I'm going out of town for my Navy summer cruise, get back just in time to be bored for a few days before fall semester starts up. Unfortunately, I don't have access to land suitable for shooting, except maybe skeet shooting- and that's behind my parent's house, a site I'm hesitant to volunteer since I don't live there any more. I do have a friend who's a member at Durham Pistol & Rifle, who I shoot with ocassionally- if there's interest, I'll see if he can get some info about a group shoot for us. DPRC is a pretty nice place- a 15 yard pistol pit, 50/100yd general purpose range w/ concrete benches, 25/50 pistol range w/ wood benches, 300yd rifle range w/ concrete. On the other hand, they have fairly strict rules about guests being accompanied by members. I'm not a member anywhere myself, only because I'm relatively new to the shooting sports.

So, I'd love to meet some of you guys on here sometime- I won't be in NC much longer, since I'll graduate next spring and get commissioned and shipped off to God knows where (pray for Pensacola)... If there's serious interest in DPRC, I'll look into it.

Edit: Also, there's another issue I have... I keep accumulating ammunition at a rate greater than I expend it. I'd welcome any chance to fix that. :D

Go ahead and check at DPRC and see if that can be worked out. The Range in Oxford is pretty slam full of competitions these days and the owner never got back to me. I typically shoot at a local PD Range, but there a snowballs chance in heck of a group shoot there. Somewhere, there's got to be an area where a few of us can get together to shoot. At this point, we may have to move to PDHSC in South Raleigh and rent the range for an evening.

If anyone is interested in that, PDHSC has an indoor range and I can arrange to rent the entire range for a couple of hours and get the rental guns thrown in for free, we just need to pay for the range fees and the ammo unless we bring our own. I'm not sure how many people we would need, but I can find out. The only downside is that PDHSC is a pistol range (20 yards), but you can shoot rimfire rifle. They also have an interactive range that we may be able to get on as well. This would mean however, that the shoot would have to be during the evening hours after probably 5pm.

Anybody interested in that?

That would be a perfect location time-wise for me, although the formal range setting sort of detracts from the atmosphere I was hoping to experience. I frequent PDHSC, and know that Taipei Personality goes there also.

Would any of you be interested in going to the Sharon Harris game lands? I've shot there with before with a friend off of RFC and we had a great time. We simply parked and found a likely spot, then tossed dozens of clays with a hand thrower and bulk pack 12 gauge ammo.

Update: Unfortunately, I haven't been able yet to get in touch with my buddy at DPRC. I'd be fine with PDHSC- the chance to shoot some rentals would be welcome to me, I always like to broaden my horizons! I've also already got a range safety card at PDSHC (I bought my P94 there).

I'm flying out to San Diego Monday morning for my cruise, and I'll be back around 13AUG. I should have occasional Net access, so I'll keep up with how things are going here when I can,. I'll also keep trying to get up with my buddy- I think DPRC would be a little more enjoyable than PDHSC, since there are fewer restrictions on what we can shoot.

Another possibility is the Wake County Firearms Education & Training Center. There's more flexibility as to what we can shoot, with ranges out to 100 yards. However, you have to go through a 2-hour "orientation" before shooting there, and it's $15/$25 for the range card (resident/non-resident). Your first hour of range time is free, but thereafter it's $10/$15 per hour. I honestly don't know that it would be worth it to everyone who's not a Wake resident. The range is only open for limited hours, also- I suppose there's the possibility of working out some kind of deal...

NC Shoot

Dang! How'd I miss this one?

I reckon it's too late now....but how'bout next time? Can I come
play next time? Can I? Huh?:D

And I ain't in Winston...I'm in beautiful downtown Rural Hall, NC,
just about a mile from the Stokes County line.

Chitty-Chitty, Bang-Bang!

That's the plan. We're supposed to be shooting a match in Davidson at the Iredell FOP range this Saturday. I'm taking hip waders and a canoe...

Dove season

With the upcoming dove season, how would a group dove shoot sound?

Anyone have access to land?

Heck, I'd even buy the land provider a couple hundred rounds of ammo.

Today was the day

Well, Fed168, my son and I got back from the first semi-almost-official NC get together with 1911Tuner about 4 hours ago. It was a fun time, and a good time was had by all.

Thanks 'Tuner for your hospitality. Thanks also for your wit and insight. The company was great, the shooting was great, and the weather couldn't have been better. The range was in peak condition and enough lead was thrown downrange to elicit a most satisfying nap upon our return. Except for Fed168... he napped on the return drive.

I believe that this is the first time my son actually said "I'm done" as he had shot enough. The little man had a great time.

Today was a GOOD day.
:D
