i use them by the hundreds just about every week at trap-sporting clays- five stand and even tho i reload with mec 9000,s(3) for the price its hard to beat the price with the cost of reloadig supplies(they have come down a little). i shoot the fed 1-1/8 oz #8,s and if i miss its not the shells. eastbank.

Those shell heads were zinc plated steel, not aluminum.

A few months ago, Wal_Mart started selling retro-80s style white/black/bronze boxes with shells loaded in hulls similar to the ones that used to come in the value packs in single 25 round boxes at a better price point than the value packs.

Some shells that look like brass base are actually just brass plating over some other cheap metal.

Usually plated or coated steel, and especially common on promo/economy low brass loads.

Whatever the case I wonder if they somehow cheapened production somewhere else or relocated production to say Mexico or something like that.

yesterday i shot two 24-25,s with the federal bulk pack 12ga shells with my BT-100 with out a problem,s other that i missed two birds. no FTF-FTE. eastbank.

I wouldn't start any rumors about imports from them.

Even in asking the question it evolves into: "I heard..." or "I read... "

Looks like they're probably just washing the earlier aluminum bases and the bright red boxes are throughout the Federal line now - some even look pink to me.

Probably an "Estate" overlap allows for the lower pricing as they are both held by the same greater organization and both headquartered there in Anoka.

Thanks for the heads-up too. It caused me to look around and found some very nice prices by the case.

Todd.

We're in the shotgun section op says shells and some of you don't know if they're for rifle or pistol???????????

Threads can and often do get moved between sub-forums. This thread was originally posted in a different sub and once it was clarified that the question was regarding shotgun shells it was moved.

I was not confused by the OP but I was confused by some of the responses.

I have bought Federal ammo at WallyWorld: a 100 round carton (four boxes of 25) of #8 12ga shotshells and a 325 round box of .22 LR Automatch cartridges. I guess I have been familiarized with "shell" for shot gun rounds and "cartridge" for rifle/handgun rounds since I was a child of six in 1954 or so. (I do slip up and call empty or fired shotshells or cartridge casings "shells".) We all fall victim to habit. Peace. Judge not lest.
