BLR in 308

. 358 Winchester for me. I just wish the trigger was a little better on mine. Very handy platform. I am looking into lower scope mounts for mine. See through mounts and straight stock don't point as naturally as it should.

There are a few gunsmiths who can tame the BLR trigger for a price.

One of my Holy Grail guns... I'd be happy with it being a .358 too: I just don't have a 'need' for it.

Talley makes rings for the BLR. I think they make the Browning rings. I cleaned the factory gunk of the trigger parts and put a little clean lithium grease back and improved it quite a bit. It will never be like a good bolt gun trigger.

Mine is an early production Belgium BLR in .308. I love this gun. Unless the early ones had better triggers, I've never considered the trigger a real problem. I've fired rifles with much worse triggers.

I acquired my .358 BLR in a trade in the early 80's for a Remington 1100 12ga that I had bought new for ~$140. One of the best deals I've ever made.

Congrats. I like them a lot as well. I would have probably bought one but the love of my life rifle is my 30-30 and I already own a 30-06 bolt action so I have my bases covered. Had I seen the take down BLR in 308 first I,would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Evidently I don't know everything yet. We were watching Benefit of the Doubt last night. Jesse Stone pulls over the bad guy and finds a lever-action .308 in the trunk. "Where's the magazine?", Stone asks.

So right there I'm thinking this is typical Hollywood, knows nothing about firearms. Lever guns don't have detachable magazines! On the other hand, Tom Selleck is the executive producer, and is on the NRA board of directors. Not sure what to think. Later on it's revealed that the rifle absolutely has a DBM. A quick trip to the Internet Movie Firearms Database reveals that it's a Browning BLR 81.

Now there's something new on my wish list.

I keep my eyes open for them when I am browsing gun stores. I would like to find one in 30-06 but 308 would be nice also.

You'll find the Savage 99 in detachable magazine as well.
The first run of BLR Rifles were made in Belgium then Japan and then a redesign that changed the magazine and also offered a long action.
I have one of the old ones in 308 and had one in 243 that I wish I had kept.
The magazines are very rare and expensive. Seen them priced at $250.

Winchester 88 also has a DBM.

Got a .308 BLR as a HS graduation present. Have killed a lot of deer with it. Near my 50th birthday, an as new .358 came up for sale. Said to of had only half a box of ammo thru it. It looked that way. Not a blemish. Was a safe queen for many years. Even came with an old half box of Winchester ammo. Elk hate it.
Some years back I found 4 magazines on clearance in a bin. All 4 for $15. All feed .308 and.358 interchangeably.

Henry is now making a very BLRish looking lever rifle with a detachable mag. Like the BLR it comes in many chamberings. Pricier though.

Any debate about the pros/cons WRT a straight grip vs pistol grip?

My main recollection of a friend's .308 BLR was that it had the typical Browning gloss finish and was a hard kicker.

I don't own a BLR but have 4 other lever guns with detachable magazines, lots of them out there. Winchester, Sako, Ruger, Savage come to mind in addition to Browning, there are probably others. Congrats on the BLR, nice rifles!!

I'll validate your recollection. My .358 win kicks hard. Not a rife you want to sit at the bench and shoot a couple hundred rounds.

Funny thing though, in the field, I never noticed it and I've taken countless deer with it.
