The PROSTAFF has better glass coating's on all surfaces and allows for fine adjustment at the eye piece where the Buckmaster II has a fixed eye piece. It just depends if your eyes need that fine tuning, my 50+ year old eyes definitely need it. I'd say buy that $149 PROSTAFF 3-9 right now. That PROMO on runs for a few more weeks.
Let me know if you need help dialing in the BDC reticle with Spot On.

Hello Bart

Does the Prostaff and Monarch line overlap since the changes?

Prostaff

Prostaff 5

Prostaff 7

Monarch 3

Monarch 5

Monarch 7

Curious minds want to know. I used to have a handle on the various offerings.

What compares to the old Buckmaster?

I recently bought a Monarch 5 ED on sale and it is very nice, but I would really like some clarification on the above points if you could.

Thanks.

The changes were made to make things easier for folks like yourself and myself but I get asked that question a lot. The PROSTAFF 5 is most like the Buckmaster of old. It does have improved coatings on all glass surfaces and all can be ordered with a Custom Turret from Nikon too.The MONARCH 3 is the same MONARCH lens coatings as previous and one inch tube. The MONARCH 5 and 7 are higher quality glass and coatings then the 3 and the 5x zoom on the 5 and 30mm tubes on the 7's are big changes. I can tell the difference between my MONARCH 3 and 5. The 5 picture seems to really pop with clarity and brightness. I have yet to lay my hands on a MONARCH 7 even though I have 30mm rings just waiting for one.
I hope this info helps?
A reminder, I do not work directly for Nikon, I do freelance PR/Shooting Event's for Nikon. Lots of great new stuff coming in the next year as well. I am fortunate that when guy's asking for something special in an optic I can send that info along to those that actually make the new product decisions.

Thanks Bart, that helps a lot. I have an old Buckmaster on a .22 Hornet that I like. That gives me an idea of what to expect from a Prostaff 5.

Hey. Can someone tell me where I can pick up the ProStaff for the $149.00 deal ? And is it the 3-9×40 with the BDC model. I saw one at $179.00 at Sportsmans Guide website the other day. And was considering it. Thanks.

Thank you very much for all the replies. I very much appreciate it. I will check in to it right away. I like the Nikon Pro Staff series. Very bright and Clear! And the BDC feature is a nice touch along with the other features of the Pro Staff. Thanks again for your help .

When you say better coatings what do you mean clarity fog proof or low light?
