... including banning the sale of semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines (including if they have a "bullet button" which was the workaround folks came up with last time) and requiring background checks to buy ammo.

He did at least veto the one requiring people who make their own gun to put a serial number on and report it.

Because he vetoed similar bills a few years ago, many people here thought he would veto them again this time, even saying the reason he pledged to deal with them this morning was that he was going on vacation and didn't want Newsom to sign them. So much for "assuming"...

It's California, 2016. The only good news is that, some day it will get better.
Living there for several years (1960-1964) and loving the Golden State, at least this is my fervent prayer.

In Florida we States' rights folks have a rallying cry: "Don't Californicate Florida!"
Sorry about the "Left Coast". This crazyness won't stop until their Ox is gored. Having just returned from Seattle/Tacoma Washington area, I'm surprised that it is only slightly crazy. Recreational Marijuana and sniffer dogs and State Police on all the harbor car ferries. Homeless people camping in tents throughout the cities and $59.95 minimum entries on sidewalk restaurant menus. Welcome to Nancy Pelosi and Hillary's Amerikka.

Curator, here in CO we are under some of the same "influences." The latest is that the mayor of Denver seems shocked (shocked, I tell you) that homeless freeloaders have flocked to the lawless pedestrian mall downtown to panhandle and smoke weed for the summer and now they have graduated to increasingly violent behavior. Allegedly the city is shelling out for a heavily increased police presence there now. I no longer have reason to go downtown any more (thank God), but I would not do so unarmed at this point.

So this would include the Ruger 10/22? It has a detachable magazine. Wow!

Sad. My Yugo 59 SKS should still be good to go though. 10 round non-detachable magazine in 7.62x39 with no evil grenade launcher. Makes a lot of sense, no?

Mine is in the middle.

the letters and calls and hand wring are OVER ! Civil disobedience next, I'm going to Hollister tomorrow to hang with 100000 bikers and see if I can raise awareness for Wolverines before we lose this state to the evil turds who brought this.

Thank God I left that state back in '92, and took my guns with me. Jerry Brown AKA "Moonbeam" has had too many acid trips as have his associates to enact any laws especially gun laws.

The problem is people of true common sense will flee, what Kali needs is a influx of gun enthusiasts that vote. On the other hand.... I ain't throwing myself on that sword either.

Yeah...good luck with that.

Cliff's Notes:
No, it won't.

For me it was 1981-2001.
RIP, "Golden" State (of pure corruption).

Anyone who is familiar with Edmund "Jerry" Brown would have never elected him after his sustained "vacation" from public office.
Unfortunately, California voters are terminally stupid.

Hence, the unfortunate "voters get the government they deserve" statement has never been more true.

And flee they have. Heck, even those without any common sense, but at least have some wattage left to see it was unworkable, have bailed. The lunacy there is no way, shape, or form limited to horsecrap gun laws.

I have not seen the actual language of the bill. I read somewhere (maybe here) that it doesn't apply to rimfire weapons, only centerfire.

At the rifle class I attended the 10/22 I used had a rotating thing that held 3 10-round magazines so you just quickly click it for each next mag, the instructor said it was legal here because the 10/22 is a rimfire... I was thinking, well, a magnum version with one of those on it, maybe that would be a good solution, especially after a little research revealed they actually made one for several years, but a friend told me if there is a situation where I need a long gun, .22 magnum is still not a good enough round. IAC I liked shooting the AR-15 much better than the 10-22, I was sort of thinking maybe to get one with the bullet button if the bullet button could be removed if I move to another state... but if these are gonna be the gun laws here I think the "if" should become "when". I am looking in Arizona and Nevada.

So if you expect you might need more than 10 rounds you have to have multiple guns?

Would love to see reporting on your event, can you please post links afterwards?

Part of the problem is so many Californians have already fled the state that neighboring states are being altered to be more like CA. It's like a CANCER spreading into other parts of the body and needs to be excised before the disease can spread any further.

Some Cali Expats left with a full knowledge that the government-created batscat craziness was the cause of the downfall of the Golden State. Sadly, many others can't, or won't, put two and two together. I believe that is the crew of which you speak, but isn't completely universal among those who fled.

OLNS : Nope, he'd just need those pesky stripper clips even bill ruger didn't mind.

I suspect many in California will go the route of the SKS, and the recent run on SKS prices would seem to indicate the truth of that belief.

The desire to have an ammo store on the CA/OR border just got really strong...

Is anyone keeping notes as to whether these laws are having any effect on violence?

Need to shove in their noses that this silliness is having zero effect on firearms violence. :cuss:

The 3 SKS' are just for illustrative porpoises! :D Aren't they lovely? :)
The SKS is reloaded with 10 round stripper clips as noted by Blarby. I carry the rifle with 3 or 4 spare clips giving me 30 or 40 rounds of 7.62x39 in the backseat of my pickup.

It's comforting.

I'm fairly sure they both do not care, and are no longer listening to what gun owners have to say any more.

I suspect many in California will go the route of the SKS
Who, the gun banners? Wakka-wakka! (gallows humor :()
