What Pistol do you carry.

My favorites are old school. A three inch heavy barrel S&W Model 36-1 round butt, and sometimes a 3 inch Model 60. For shooting and trips to the woods, I like a Colt Police Positive Special.

But...

Considering current events, I have taken to carrying a Gen 4 Glock 19 with 2 extra mags.

Regardless of whatever I have on my side, I always, always, have an NAA Black Widow 22 Magnum in my front pocket.
Yeah, while for years carrying a J frame was fine in my small town lately the J frame is still in my pocket but I have added a second gun, usually a semi-auto in 9mm but sometimes another revolver.

Since I semi-retired to my farm I always had a gun on me that was more designed to handle varmints than humans and there was always a rifle in the truck to handle distances. I often carried a PMR-30 for light weight and plenty of rounds.

Two years ago I was forced to move back into town but I live in a relatively low crime rate area and seldom venture into the lower part of town and almost never exit my vehicle when I do have to ride through. I keep a full-sized 9mm in the truck as well as a Makarov that is in easy reach. The Mak never leaves the vehicle because, if it is stolen, the thief will have to find the magazine as well ( I remove it) and then will have a gun for which accessories are not readily available. That's a small consolation but it's the one I am going with.
In my pocket I generally carry a Bodyguard 380, Diamondback DB-9, or KT PF-9. all three are very similar in operation and size so I don't have to think about what I am doing if I change out guns. As I live in GA, I wear cargo shorts and t-shirts about 90% of the time and prefer a pistol that easily slides into and out of a pocket. I do not carry a spare magazine.

For years I've carried a pocket pistol in 9mm. I added a CZ75 IWB or SR1911 IWB. Now both IWB and pocket. Just felt funny with out the pocket gun and feel I can get to it faster than getting a new mag in the primary.

In police uniform I carry a G17, in the customary position on the right hip. During personal time, I carry a G17 or G19 in the same position, with the holster varying somewhat with climate, clothing, and activity level.

I may carry a second gun, which could be a G19 or G17, or perhaps a 1911 or .357 Ruger SP101 revolver. Rarely, I will carry a 1911 and/or revolver, with no Glock.

A second gun will often be worn for left-hand access. I am, actually, left-handed, but functionally ambidextrous with handguns.

I am not a "fan" of Glocks; they are just tools, and mine are reliable, and lefty-friendly. My Glocks will better withstand being stored in an evidence room, after an incident, than some of my nicer weapons.

If traveling to a less-free state, I will be more likely to leave the Glocks at home, except perhaps for a G26, and/or rely on the 1911, or SP101, or larger revolvers.

I carry a very inexpensive pistol for EDC.
It is a Taurus 709 Slim. I like it quite a bit.

Carried one for 6 years. Now I'm giving it to my sister in Florida to carry.

I upgraded to my current Sig 239 with 1 or 2 xtra mags depending on where I'm going.

Boy I love my 239. I talk myself out of carrying it because A) the PPS holds about the same and carries so much more easily and B) I talk myself into feeling like I should have more rounds for the weight. However, no gun of mine has seen as many rounds through it (100% failure-free) and no other shoots as accurately and consistently.

Personal Carry

I carry a Taurus PT845 in an alien gear cloak tuck 3.0 behind my right hip for casual wear and a S&W M&P .40 subcompact for those not so fun night when I have to wear a suit and look nice for the wife.

Most of the time I carry a Ruger LCR in .357 Magnum. Why? Because my situation requires deep concealment most of the time. That means pocket carry. I could carry a small automatic and get a few more rounds, but small autos aren't always the most reliable - the old "five for sure" mantra strikes a chord with me. .357 is the most punch I can get in a gun this size, and I prefer Rugers to Smiths in general and the LCR to a J-frame in particular.

I guess that I’m one of the few out layers here with a wheel gun. Depending on the weather, what I’m wearing and where I’m going, it’s either a 2” model 37 in my pocket or a 3” model 37 OWB with a cover shirt or jacket. Why? Because anything heavier pulls my pants down and in my area, the need is pretty remote.

If I remember correctly, the question from the OP is "What do you carry? And why?"

Gen 4 G19, with an extra magazine on the weak side. When I decided to step down from a full-sized steel CCW pistol a few years ago, I went through (what I thought was) a pretty thorough research endeavor. I really didn't want to like Glocks, but the G19 is a pretty hard-to-beat combination of price and features. Light, 15 rounds in the mag, another 15 on the belt, reliable, and more than accurate enough for most defensive purposes.

Since I moved to the hot, humid South my primary carry gun has been my Kahr CM9. I see it as the 21st Century answer to the Chiefs Special. Easy to carry, easy to shoot, quick to reload...mission accomplished.

While I may have (X) number of handguns suitable for concealed carry, I do not have a carry rotation as such.

For the last several years I've carried a full-size (Fall-Winter) and or compact Spring-Summer) semiautomatic pistol of the same manufacture identical in operating features. Both employed the same holster and magazine pouch.

The last eighteen months or so I've transitioned to the compact version for year around carry.

Occasionally when I carry a backup to the EDC its a DAO revolver.

This is a horses for courses question for me.

Work: on body: p3at or NAA pug w/folding grip. Off body: SW9VE (The notorious sigma, which has been 100% reliable, accurate, and is cheap) stored in a hidden pocket in my bag.

Why: At work I've been put in a very awkward situation. I'm a manager at an office that has an ex-employee of concern. He was making YouTube videos accusing the government, and us as his former employer, of conspiring to take his dog and his son away from him, conceal crimes, bla bla. He was also threatening to beat up the sheriff of a town in another state with a baseball bat, had his ex wife's divorce lawyer asking to be excused from being her lawyer because she was concerned for her safety, and so on. Charming. He was a prohibited person twice over but that wouldn't stop anyone from getting a gun if they wanted one, and a baseball bat is nothing to dismiss. The company policy is that nobody can carry without written approval. The CEO's response when I asked for that approval, saying I thought I should carry in the office but I didn't think my job should be at risk over it, was that he thought I should carry too and that I should decide whether my safety was more important than my job. In other words, violate company policy and prepare to be hanged for doing so if I am caught or need to use a gun at work. Fair enough. If I could, I would replace the SW9VE with a 12ga pump shotgun or an AR, but that ain't happening.

Normal weekends: anything between a p32 and an FNX45t, depending on mood and dress. Right now I have an IWB holster at about 4 o'clock with a P32 with a 10rd magazine.
Why: if you add up all the risk factors that contribute to the likelihood that I will be in a situation that requires a gun, my score is very nearly zero. I carry more.to help normalize it than because there is any credible reason for concern.

Home: I have a G22 with a Streamlight in a quick safe, and a .300Blackout AR with suppressor mounted inside the door of my gun safe.

Traveling by car: I have taken to the SP-101 in .327 fed as my default sidearm for long drives.

Why: It conceals very well in an IWB holster. It doesn't need much to keep it running. Effective. If trip includes camping in remote areas I can use it to teach shooting to anyone, using reduced loads.

I could go on....

Lightweight .38 Special snub.

When a larger pistol is practical to carry, a heavy duty .357 Magnum joins the little .38.

A .357 service revolver is not the best heavy-duty sidearm I can think of, but it is a pretty good one. The point is that it works just the same way as the small EDC gun, so there is nothing to remember to do differently when switching from one to the other.

XD-S 9 4.0, 9 MM OWB

Why?

Good balance between shootability and concealability.

Same trigger pull on first and subsequent shots.

A jacket string or shirt tail cannot activate the trigger by itself.

Grip safety is disengaged without a separate manual operation.

I think 8 rounds are probably as many as I would be able to fire. That's a judgment call--could be wrong.

Depends on what I'm wearing and how important absolute concealment is. My LC9 fits in a pocket, IWB or groin pouch, can wear it with minimal clothing. My SR40C goes IWB or OWB @ 4 o'clock with a tee shirt over it, with cargo shorts or long pants. I'll carry my 1911 OWB @ 4o'clock with a long tee shirt or tailed shirt worn like a light jacket.

No issues remembering which one works what way. LC9 and SR40C are both Condition 1 and all that's required is thumbing off the slide safety. 1911 is also Condition 1, so the hammer is back, and all that's required is thumbing off the hammer safety. All use the same motion.

Glock 42

Off duty, I pocket carry a GLOCK 42 in a GALCO pocket holster, plus a spare magazine, in my opposite pocket. It is the most comfortable to shoot .380ACP of this size and weight that I have come upon.
I used to carry a .32ACP WALTHER PPK. The GLOCK 42 is about the same size, weighs 4 ounces less and has about the same recoil impulse with .380ACP as the PPK does with .32ACP.
I carried the PPK, because it was small enough to pocket carry, but still handled well, was completely reliable and I shot it well enough to qualify with it.
The GLOCK 42 has the same advantages of the PPK, but in a more powerful round.
Every once in a while, I carry a BERETTA Tomcat 3032 pistol in .32ACP. It is barely larger than a .25ACP, but fires a more powerful round.
I also have an NAA Guardian in .32ACP which is physically smaller than the BERETTA, but no lighter. I found that BERETTA much easier to shoot and more enjoyable, plus I like the tip-up barrel feature of the BERETTA.

I had previously tried a SIG 232 in .380ACP, but it was just too bulky. A great shooter and a fine choice for a compact holster gun. I love the night sights and smooth trigger pull.
Before that, it was a S&W model 38 2 inch for years. It was very compact and I used an old THAD RYBKA pocket holster. I usually carried a speedloader in my pocket.
In the end, I wanted to carry a semi-auto and wanted more ammunition in the gun and a faster reload.

If your wondering about the emphasis on pocket carry, I live in Florida, where a jacket, photography vest or fanny pack just scream, "I AM CARRYING A GUN".

On duty, it is an H&K P-2000 in .40 S&W. No choice in that. If I could choose, it would be either a SIG 225 or WALTHER P-99AS. I much prefer either to the H&K.

Jim

I rotate between a J-frame and a Shield 9mm in the summer. In the winter I find I can conceal a CZ75 compact or CZ75-D PCR (the CZs are my favorite, the PCR is lighter as it has an alloy frame, the compact is steel).

I recently acquired a G19, but I just can't conceal that in the summer when primary dress is shorts and t-shirt.

You can Stumpy,

Wilderness frequent flyer belt 2" Glock sport? Holster, weighs nothing! Glock mag pouch. Also weighs nothing. Tee shirt? Sport shirt, Florida Shirt!
