Which P226?

I have a .40 P229, so I want my P226 to be 9mm.

Is the SRT really all that? It seems really short to me, maybe too short - unintended double-taps aren't really my thing.

Something to consider for sure. I'm perfectly happy with a standard 226 trigger. It does reset quickly, and it's certainly audible.

I have Dark Elite in 9mm and like it but Sig used different sights and sight cut on it and the night sights they used have some known issues about coming loose.

My front fell out of the Dovetail and the rear wouldn't stay tight "tiny allen screws" on the rear for adjustment.
It went back to Sig and they did fix it for free.

If you are considering a used one you might want to avoid the Dark Elite.
I am not trying to bash it or Sig just wanted to point out the sight issue,
something I wish I would have known before I bought mine.

I've got SIGs ranging from West German to German to "frame made in Germany" to all U.S. production models. Frankly, I love 'em all, and, based on my extensive experience with SIG pistols, tend to believe the SIG factory guys who say that the current U.S.-made pistols are better than the old West German guns (with the caveat, yeah, a heckuva a lot more guns than ever are being made, with way more models than ever before, so possibly more lemons might slip through the Q/C process).

There's a lot of SIG snobs out there (just check out their dedicated forum) who turn up their nose at anything that wasn't made in Deutschland, but there's not a lot of reasons to buy into that mindset (other than elitism). Bottom line, whatever P-226 you chose, it's likely gonna be a great pistol that'll afford you a lifetime of shooting pleasure.

Oh, and yeah, the SRT is really worth it.

Two of my favorite 226s in this photo: (on top, middle two) a West German original and a frame made in Germany but Exeter NH two-tone police pistol.

Old Dog, those are some lovely SIGs.

New SIGs aren't cheap and since none of the current production pistols are quite what I want, I went looking for used ones. Didn't find anything locally, but I did find a dealer with a bunch of ex-Swiss police guns and ordered one of them. Much less expensive than a new one - or it would have been if the same dealer didn't also have ex-LE P220s...and ex-LE S&W Model 64s...so while I didn't exactly save money, I'm getting a lot more bang for the buck...

I'm still seeing CPO and police trade-in SIG P-226s and 229s in my area for anywhere from around $495 to $695. Typically good value, especially if you don't desire a railed model (I can do without the rail as a rule).

I can't ever find CPO SIGs around here. Wish I could. Used prices are all over the map but most of what I've seen locally are ex-LE .40s, which is fine but I've already got one. Thus the order from out of state.

It occurs to me that when these pistols come in I will have four classic SIGs, all of them police surplus. As was mentioned above, they are good value.

picked up a german police trade in in Brussels last januari, got to select it from a batch of 20,
paid 250€, happy as can be.

When SIG wants to make a nice pistol ... SIG makes a nice pistol. Was just debating a guy today who thinks black plastic H&Ks are all that ... Naw, he loses.

Stainless

I like this one a lot.

Great trigger, great balance.
Compared it to the H&K VP9 that day.

Would go for the Sig anyday.

Sadly, I believe the days of Sig making world class pistols are all but over with. Very tragic what happened to Sig Germany but if you don't want to play the rules you better be prepared to suffer the consequences.

Well, some -- including me -- might debate that; while my West German and German SIGs are some of my prized handguns, even though my Legions (P-226 SAO and P-229) were made in the good ol' USA, I consider them "world-class" pistols. Certainly, there's no better new production pistols out there today that can match their performance (and looks).

I'm also a fan of the Exeter made Sigs and own several of them. To put my comment into perspective here is the test target that came with my X5, the group is less than .75" shot at 27 yards. That's good enough to make some $5K Wilsons jealous. ;)

Well, I like my H&Ks too...certainly have enough of them...but I'll take a SIG trigger any day. German guns and Scotch whisky and there's room enough for more than one kind of each.

(My pistols are at the FFL but I can't get there for a couple days yet, argh!)
