Why is Beretta CX4 so darn expensive compared to an AR?

Cool guns, I REALLY want one but I'll admit, the price tag is up there for what I see, especially with a lacluster trigger.

I think the barrel isn't threaded due to points/parts count for 922r. In import can only have so many "evil features" and be legal. Funny, you can build an AR with all the evil you want if the rifle is produced in the US.

I paid $550 or so for my Storm 9mm carbine from Buds. Overall I like the gun. In my entire livin' life I've never felt a worse trigger than the one on my particular gun. Occasionally even after owning it for a couple years I still pull the trigger and look to see if the safety is still on. IMO there's no excuse for a trigger this poor. But on the other hand a terrible trigger is less of a hindrance to good shooting on a rifle than it would be on a sidearm.

Lots has been said on the old pistol-vs-rifle issue. Undoubtedly a 5.56 has much better terminal performance than a 9mm/.40/.45 ACP. Still even though I have an AR my Storm still leans in the corner by the bed. Partly this is because I have several thousand rounds through it and I know it works well. While it isn't as potent as a true rifle the 9mm round does have a lot more POP through a longer barrel. And it's easy to put 20 rounds on a playing card about as fast as you can pull the trigger.

One real strength to the Storm is the very short OAL. It's actually shorter overall than my AR with the stock fully collapsed. Very handy for tight spaces.

+1 for the sharp impulse and cheek slap. I was surprised my 40 would do that in a rifle. I wasn't expecting that but am used to it now. I'm curious how the CZ Scorpion EVO would perform.

I had one, but it didn't fit me well, was a bit too compact for me, and I didn't like it any better than my fold up Kel-Tec in 9MM, which I still have. Hey, I didn't ever foresee me defending myself with it, so the quality difference between the two was a non factor for me. And by the way, the Kel-Tec is still running merrily along. Is the Beretta a better gun? Sure it is.

Since then I bought a 9MM AR and I simply love it. Would I feel comfortable with using it to defend myself? I would, but it is a range toy. That said, I have more than one range toy I would be comfortable defending myself with.

If the storm fits you well and you like it, and plenty of folks prefer it over the 9mm AR, then find the best deal you can and get one.

The likely hood is I will spend the rest of my life playing with my 9MM carbines at the range and never use one to defend myself with. (Or anything else) I don't put a lot of worry into it.

I love the compactness of it. But I don't like the layout of it; the crossbolt safety is very awkward to me. I like the control and layout of the AR better but the Storm is almost SBR/bullpup length with a 16" barrel.

The CX4 really interests me for an in-house suburban defence firearm. But it's $400 more than a Hi-point and $200 more than a Bear Creek AR15.

I may just end up getting an AR, but the CX4 is sexy and compact.
I've owned the Storm before. I'll take the Kel-Tec 2000 II over it (actually will over most other 9mm rifles.)

But then I'll take an good AR over either (and my DPMS 3G2 only costed me $500 and it is a real good AR!)

I own 2 CX4 carbines. One in 9 and the other in 40. I enjoy shooting them. The compact size fits me well and I find it ergonomic for me. They are both very accurate. I do like the easy way to switch controls from right to left.
The fact that they use Beretta 92 and 96 mags respectively is a plus as those mags are easy to find. One of the things on my list is to have the barrel threaded.
I find they fit and handle better, for me, than the HiPoint carbine.

I also own an AR in 9. I bought my AR way before the Glock mag versions came out. It's the Bushmaster Carbon 15 variant. It uses the Colt style mags. It also is very accurate.

As to price on the Beretta compared to others, I think it's at a decent price point. How much would a HK94 clone cost? My Bushmaster was in the $900 range.
Even building a new AR in 9 would be in the $700-900 range depending on features. So, a Storm for around $600 is not a bad deal, if it fits you.

Beretta should be swimming in enough of that BattleStar Galactica money to lower the Cx4 price by now.

I should have jumped on the Botach Tactical Cx4 plus five magazines for $599 deal last year.

Of course then I would have to immediately sent a check for $187 to SierraPapa for their hammer/trigger/spring upgrade kit.

Price a CX4 next to a 9mm AR build. Not that much different when you compare apples to apples.

I just bought a used CX4 9mm for $650; which seemed like a decent deal. I wanted the 9mm to go with the rest of my guns, all 9mm except for a 22LR rifle and pistol. I started looking at AR's, then AR-9 and then the CX4.

I kind of forgot but I wanted to backtrack a little bit to the noise issue. Due to the 16" barrel it's surprising how quite a 9mm Storm Carbine is! No, not quiet enough to shoot indoors w/o earpro but much quieter than a 9mm handgun. And vastly quieter than a 5.56 indoors! A week or two ago I ran my AR on an indoor range for the first time...even with earplugs and electronic earmuffs it gets your attention. Worse off axis watching someone else shoot than being right behind the gun but both are loud. It would indeed suck to touch off an AR inside the house without earpro. Of course, it would be better than being shot dead in a home invasion.
