with this possible ban would it be a bad Idea to invest in the AR platform,
looking to get a new rifle would I be better off with a nice bolt action instead
meaning I hate to buy it then cant shoot it due to it being banned ?:uhoh:
I thinking out loud any opinions ?

With no details on this "possible" ban there is no way to answer your question.

If that happens, once the law is passed it will likely state either no MORE AR's in that location after x date (which would make now a good time to obtain one) or NO AR's at all after x date, which would leave the option of either removing it from the offended area, or........

Washington and Oregon want to pass similar gun laws as California has, 10 rounds max , no so called assault rifles , hope it won't pass but folks keep moving north from California and pushing their addenda not a fan

Get more than 20% of your fellow gun owners to oppose the new laws this time, and you won't have anything to worry about.

I'm pretty sure I heard the talking heads on the radio mention grandfathering in existing weapons here in Washington, but they didn't go into much detail. If it's the same thing they've been kicking around, it'll go beyond just rifles to handguns and shotguns.

It goes like this. Days ago, no talk. A few days ago, hear some talk. Then a ''bill'' is discussed...and the ? becomes grandfathering...

Next actually cometh the bill, yes grandfathered. Then later, other changes. Registration. And then...

The same thing happens with the flu. People think they're getting it, but don't actually do anything until they're several days into it. Then wish they did something days before.

Post #5 needs read again folks! To that I would add, flood your Reps with phone calls and real letters complete in envelope with licked stamp. It is a wonder to me what happens in a Rep's office ;)when they receive 100, 200, a mere 300 actual mailed US Postal letters all on the same topic. Hand writtten compete with grammatical and speln' errers.

OP Jo Jo -

If you have interest, you should purchase an AR before the bolt gun. AR prices are not still at rock bottom, but those prices will not be back for a while.

I hope the folks in the NW heard the wake up call and ready to turn back any attempt to ban scary looking rifles.

Go ahead and buy an AR.

If a ‘ban’ is enacted, it will apply to future acquisitions, not current owners.

The whole grandfathering is nonsense. I work for the gun lobby here in RI and every year the antis write legislation that would outlaw the possession of the AR regardless of where and when you bought it. Either sell it out of state (how thoughtful of them) or turn it over to law enforcement. Same goes for mags as well. Now it never passes but your legislators can do whatever they want (or you let them) and it will be up to the pro-gun folks to get it reversed. We have a very strong 2A equivalent in our state constitution with plenty of case law favoring us but that means nothing. The onus will be on us get get our rights back.

Just look at my state's CCW fiasco. We've been shall issue since 1927 and we still have problems with police departments not following the law.

If you think you might ever want one, get one. This ban stupidity may or may not come to pass, but Massachusetts and a couple other states run by authoritarians show the folly of procrastinating. Now, the only people who can legally own and shoot AR's in MA, at least until this travesty is repealed, are those who went out and bought what they wanted when they could.

And no, WA isn't going to confiscate some of the most popular rifles in the state. AR's are still legal to own and shoot in Canada, most of Europe, and every state in the USA. And the more people own them, the less likely a ban becomes in the first place.

All you have to do is look what the liberals have done in Connecticut. Get every thing
you can. Just look at our gun laws here. 10 round mags. No sales of AR s unless their
prebanned . I would love to move , But my daughter is going to school. We have two senators in Washington all the time preaching new gun laws. While the state has no money.

The AR is the most popular platform in the United States. Either it will remain so until something better comes around or most of us won't be alive to have a popular platform.

And with more and more people manufacturing their own AR15's and people buying them like crazy I don't think there will be a situation in our lifetime where they aren't extremely common.

Excuse my ignorance, but if I'm planning on building an ar... Could I just get a few stripped lowers and hoard those for awhile until I get around to building the complete rifle? That is what the state is currently regulating isn't it?

That is what a lot of us are doing, even in states that have no pending legislation. Some of us figure with hrc as the next president, the push will be strong for a nation wide ban. Lowers are as cheap now as they have ever been, I expect a price jump near the election, so now is the time to buy.

I guess I will buy what I want now who knows perhaps the proposed law will never make
it to paper ,
I really pray that all us us vote and start turning the tide a bit

And yet it is all the excuse many need to avoid stopping the law and instead panic buying an AR15 when that same money donated to an activist group could moot the entire problem. Same as with UBCs...

Why not actually MAKE the law not happen? Why rely on prayer and hope?

Believe me I have emailed, wrote and called my state rep along with hundreds if not thousands of our fellow pro gun folks here in WA , we all are hopefully going to attempt to Vote these anti gun reps out of office, the WA Attorney General has a Facebook poll going on the topic and he is getting slammed with a poll of 82% to 18% in our favor the last I looked.
It's very possible the with all the backlash the State Rep is getting it may not
see paper proposal.
BUT
The liberal anti gun folks in Office and possible coming to Office "Hiillary"
seem to have away of twisting facts and Rights around. the way they want
to get what they want :cuss:

I really believe this Election is so very important both on the State and Federal level that we all must Vote and change the tide because if they win across the board we will have some tough days coming in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure I heard the talking heads on the radio mention grandfathering in existing weapons here in Washington,

I am sure they are but that's just the first step. The next step once they are not mainstream is to ban them.

Round polished rocks in a stream don't start out that way, they are formed into that shape over years of erosion.

Stripped lower(s) would be a good first step. Depending on how the legislation and/or regulations are later written, they could do something horrible like only grandfather completed firearms. Version of that is what happened in the 1994 federal AWB.

Keep in mind they may also go after standard capacity magazines, so putting aside say 10 good quality standard capacity magazines per receiver would also be an excellent prep. Magazines today in most US jurisdictions are readily available and competitively priced, so the time to buy is now before the next bannic.

Yep 10 round limit is on the list anything over 10 rounds not just AR , all rifles and pistols are included , they will group assault weapon as anything over 10 rounds it's not just about
The AR they are after a lot more
If you read the full ban proposal it would restrict us to cowboy guns , don't be fooled by
Their tricky pen and fork tounge they have no middle ground
We got to vote them out of office

They are setting us up for a big KO if she wins office the state lawmakers and judges are mostly in place just waiting for the the Federal backing that she will act on and then it will
Affect all of us that's why I say vote them out at all levels of office
