Anybody have any pros or cons with this ammo? I was browsing around the LGS and noticed this stuff was comparable in price to the other defensive ammo but instead of a 20-25rd box it came in a 50rd box for 25$. I have been looking for a defense ammo that doesn't break the bank. So I can do more practice with it and make sure it runs flawless in my guns. I bought two boxes on a whim and took it home to the back yard.

Full mag of 15 rds from my couple week old Gen 4 Glock 19 at 25ft.

Any body else use this stuff? Remarks? Thank you

The pro is that it is tied with the 147gr Winchester Ranger "T" Series for the best terminal ballistics of any 9mm round

You've stumbled across some of the best 9mm defensive ammo out there. It's hard to find for some, but performs exceptionally well in ballistics testing. If it works in your Glock (It works well in mine) then buy more.

Its what I run in all my 9mms. I can't think of any cons.

I like it so much I tailor my reloads to match its feel and POI for practice.

I've been searching around for some bulk ammo to buy that will be somewhat similar for more practice. Best option I am finding is freedom munitions 147gr reman for 220$ per 1000

Love it in my xds. I am using the +p variety until my stash runs out and then I'm switching to standard pressure.

Federal's HST Tactical 147 gr. ammo works great in my guns. Least expensive price I found online was Target Sports USA at $19.99/50 rounds.

Does the 147gr have an advantage over the 124gr?
Not really as they both have tested very well. I used it for many years but since I began reloading, and subsequently began shooting more often, I moved to 124 grain as it is a little less expensive.

The 147 has higher sectional density, 0.167 compared to the 124 @ 0.141. Sectional density is used to predict penetration. All other things being equal (and they rarely are), the greater sectional density round will penetrate better.

I have found that subsonic ammo seems to be less objectionable to fire in small 9mm's like the P-11 KT. Doesn't make quite the muzzle blast that lighter/faster bullets create and staying subsonic could offer a little less violence to the atmosphere which might translate to a quieter experience...especially indoors. I've tested quite a few calibers indoors firing into a bullet box in the closet...and some of them are really nasty even with muffs and plugs. Would be terrible to shoot without ear protection in self defense...so maybe that's a good deterrent to being too casual about touching off a round.

OP, that is an excellent price for the 50-round boxes of HST, I would buy as many as I could afford. As was said, the 147 grain HST penetrates a little better than the 124 grain. The 147-grain standard pressure load is my choice of ammo for all 9mm carry guns. I also carry it in .45 ACP 230-grain. The HST is the best hollowpoint bullet on the market right now. The +P version of the 147 grain load offers marginal, if any, performance increase over the standard pressure 147 HST but in 124-grain I would probably opt for the +P if given a choice but I'd be just as happy with the standard pressure 124. The increase in recoil and muzzle blast is not conducive to follow-up shots.
