I've been reloading various center fire cartridges for a least 50 years. I'm about to start reloading for the .300 Savage. While reading everything I can about the cartridge on the web occasionally I would read that this cartridge can be "tricky" to reload.

Anyone with experience with reloading the .300 Savage ever find anything "tricky" about reloading it?

I would think the only thing tricky would be the short neck not having enough gripicity to keep the bullet in place during recoil.

Your shared knowledge and experience would be appreciated.

Thanks

I reload for it as well. The only "tricky" part I have observed is the short round shoulders are sometimes not pushed back enough or are partially collapsed when sizing. If you start with a neck that is small enough in diameter the neck tension will not be an issue. At least I have never had that kind of problem. Lube dents just below the shoulder or on the shoulder also seem to happen more often than with say the 308 when sizing. I like IMR 4320 with 150 or 180 grain Hornaday Interlokt bullets as these are the most accurate combinations in my rifles, a couple Savage 99's and an Arisaka type 38 rebarreled to 300 SAV.

I have found nothing "tricky" I use Varget and a 150 gr Sierra Pro Hunter RN.Shot out of my Savage 99.

Member FROGO is on point here. I reload both .300 Sav and .308 for my 99s, and both shoot the 180 Interlok bullets like champs. Not home right now, but if you'd like a pet load, pm me, but standard rules apply. Start low, work up, watch for pressure signs. YMMV.

Shootingtimes.com has a article on their site right now about reloading the 300 Savage.
