Sccy vs. Sd9ve

I'd go SDVE, especially if it fits you better. More like usually means more practice.

The SDVE's are very good guns---pretty much a Glock without the price tag------I have one in .40--its accurate and reliable. Its my only .40---purchased for the next panic when only .40 will be on the shelves again---so I can still shoot when 9mm and 5.56 won't be available----not dipping into my stockpile if I don't have to.

Field strip one and see just how nice the machine work is--if I were on a budget, I wouldn't hesitate on getting another----they go for $299 around here---very good gun for that kind of money

Yea I'm not a big fan of either but it sounds like the SDV is gonna be better for you. In that price range and for CC I'd rather get a S&W Shield for $329.

For concealed carry a Smith Shield is better.

The SD9VE has very good ergonomics and in my experience is 100% reliable. It also (as does the Shield) has the Smith and Wesson lifetime warranty.

I will second the Sar. You can also get the compact version for around $300. Great gun with a decent trigger pull.

If you are carrying small is your friend for discretion. The S&W Shield is the nicest gun by far for the money, gets outstanding reviews and is a great CCW gun.

I understand the whole broke collage student thing, It took me 13 years total to earn my 4 year degree (Actually two degrees: 2yr Associates/4 year Bachlors-it was a 2+2 program) while working full time at some not very high paying jobs on the pay-as-you-go plan. During about 2/3's of that time I was church mouse poor but through scrimping and saving I still bought three excellent quality guns:
-Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag for deer hunting
-Remington 870 Special Field 12ga for all other hunting
-and eventually an S&W 640 Centennial in .38 +P+ for CCW

The Remington came first, Ruger second, S&W last and they all served for home defense. When I got my 2yr degree that opened many doors for better jobs and as my circumstance improved I treated myself to an S&W model 41 target pistol.

During all those lean years I never ever regretted working extra side jobs, saving, doing what it took to get the higher quality guns I wanted and not settling for something lesser. I never let a budget determine what I wanted, I studied and considered to determine what I thought was best and then worked to achieve it. If a Glock is what you truely want then don't settle. Put it in lay-away, work extra, find side jobs, skip coffee & fast food & whatever. Get what it is you really desire and enjoy the pride & satisfaction that comes with it. Settling is a bad habit, don't start it.

On a budget and looking at something for concealed carry I would go with the S&W Shield. Bud's Gun Shop has then for $329. Want something more comfortable in your hand then I would say the S&W SD9VE at $299 would be a good choice as an all-around kind of gun (home defense, range use, possibly even concealed carry). Another big plus would be you would have a decent warranty and customer service available from S&W.

While the SCCY CPX has the lower price point at $249 I don't know if with your larger size hand if you would be comfortable with the grip size or with the DAO trigger. See if you can check one out at your local gun shop if they have them or at a local gun show. No experience with SCCY's warranty process or customer service.

I have the SW9VE (prior version) and it ha been my truck gun for a while now so I am inclined to recommend the SD9VE for that reason. But watch this and if you don't want an SD9VE after this then I can't help you. These guns can shoot if you can. And notice it is being carried concealed.

The Sd9ve is fairly light and trim. My trigger was upgraded but it's not really necessary. I like mine a lot. It could work for ccw but the shield is a better dedicated gun for that purpose.

I have (had) an SCCY 2 ( the 1 has a safety that i did not like) and shot a lot of ammo through it but used it as a truck gun. It in no way is a Shield or Sig P 938 but it does not have the price tag of either. My SCCY was commandeered by my neighbor and now serves as his primary defensive weapon.
Just today I was thinking of that pistol and except for a bit of slap on my trigger finger it shot just fine. The company will warranty it under just about all situations, mine never broke but it was a safety model and the factory sent me a new body shell for the 2 and i quickly converted mine...charge $ 0. And they answer their phone without a two hour wait!

I'd go with the SD9VE. I've been thinking about getting one for my dad to use for HD.

Stay away from Taurus, go with the Smith, the SCCY looks ok but is a pocket gun lacking the capability you'll have in a larger gun.

With a good belt and holster, you'll conceal a larger gun fine.
