I've recently acquired some Remington Buck Hammer slugs.
Anyone have experience with these?
Tell me the good, the bad and the ugly.
Thanks!

I tried them in a mossberg pump. Five rounds was enough to make me decide to just use my muzzleloader during shotgun season. Out of a five pound shotgun, these things just beat me up. And i'm usually not all that recoil sensitive.

They pound on both ends, though. My son used them out of his 1100 and 870 when we still had to use shotguns here. He got several deer with them. Now he has them for backup, and hunts with an AR; I used Hornady SST sabots out my 870, now I use a Savage Axis in .223, and switch between my Mosins sometimes.

"They pound on both ends, though." Most definitely. If I recall, the 12 gauge 2.75" buckhammers were right at 3000 ft-pounds at the muzzle, more or less equivalent to a .30/06. Not exactly the 4500 ft-ponds of .375 H&H or .458 Win Mag, but lots of energy nevertheless. Thankfully, Indiana has since legalized pistol class cartridges in rifles and I'm very content with a .44 mag in the Ruger 77-44.

They are the most accurate slugs (and the hardest recoiling!) I have tried in my rifled Mossberg 930 auto. They also shoot quite well out of a smoothbore model 12. Sadly, they have been discontinued. The BuckHammer name was quite accurate, they drop like hit with a hammer. They performed excellent for less than half the price of any sabot slug I have used.

Thanks for the replies guys,
These are 20 so probably wont be as bad as 12ga.
Anyway, I'm looking for long range accuracy, not a soft recoil.
It's not like I will be hunting doves with them.
Can't find a slug gun here so I'm not sure what I will be able to find when I get to the communist state of Illinois. Normally I only bow hunt whitetails but my right shoulder has recently been giving trouble, thankfully I shoot lefty so the hammering on the friendly end won't pose a problem. Shotgun is only a emergency back up. The guy I hunt with there has a Deer Slayer rifled barrel so the slugs won't go to waste.
I bought them at a gun show Saturday, 14 boxes of five for $30, so even If I don't use them it was worthwhile. I had heard they were wicked accurate.
Please keep the comments comming if you have anything to add. or bolster these previous comments.

Shotguns shooting slugs are like .22 rimfires. They are fairly picky and sometimes you have to try several different slugs to find an accurate one for a particular shotgun.

Buck Hammers might be very accurate in your shotgun(hopefully they will) or might not be very accurate at all.

Haven't those been discontinued? The Buck Hammers I had shot in the past shot like a champ in my fully rifled barrel Remington 870, then of course when I go to buy a bunch of them they had already stopped making them :(.

I do not see them on Remington's website. Sportsman's Guide carries a very close copy made by Rottweil called the Laser Plus. Gets very good reviews.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
