So I've been wanting a 10/22 off and on for a while, and was thinking just plain vanilla Wally world or Academy, wood stock version. But then I walked into my LGS and he had the camo take down model at what I thought was a decent (not a steal, but decent) price, so I bought one. Now the whole take down and camo thing is a bit of a stretch for traditional me, but it's kind of cool so I can go with it and look forward to shooting it. I'm not so sure about the flash hider and the look it brings. I was able to remove it but don't know if there is something to install on the now exposed threads to just kind of make the barrel look like a barrel. If there is, please tell me. If there isn't, well you can tell me that too, and I'll leave the flash hider installed and just get used to the tacti-cool (?) look, and enjoy the gun for what it is.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It should be 1/2"-28 threaded. You just need to get a thread protector that matches.

If you know the OD of your barrel you can order a thread protector pretty close to matching.

And while you're at it, if you're a lefty as your username implies, they make lefty (reversed) safeties too.

ooh, I like that idea. Thanks desidog. And I suppose I need to be careful of all of the other possibilities with a 10/22 - I could turn my decently priced toy into an(other) expensive one.

Get a suppressor.....You won't have to look at those ugly threads then either!!

doesn't legally purchasing and owning a suppressor require another level of ATF (or some other group) paperwork and money?

For a rifle that rides around in a truck or UTV with the muzzle on the floor, I really like a flash hider to protect the crown. So you may prefer to look at it that way. But it does look pretty cool on a takedown with Tech Sights/Nodak sights. IMHO, more reminiscent of an M1A than anything "tacticool". ;)

CraigC, that is pretty sharp looking, and a good point on crown protection. Just curious - why the rail with the Tech Sight (or Nodak)? Is that a "just in case" for a scope?

Yes it does.

Look for the sticky thread over in the NFA section of this forum.

However it has not stopped thousands and thousands of us from doing it.

Nodak rear/rail and Tech Sights front tower. I put a micro red dot on it.

Put a flash can on it. They're not suppressors, but they also aren't NFA regulated, and those like the Noveske KX3 with a cone in them do quite a bit to take the noise away from the shooter, especially on a .22 (make 5.56 SBRs a lot less rowdy, too)

.22 rifles are generally pretty quiet anyway, but those with only 16" of barrel still bark enough to bother my ears with a naked muzzle. But with one of those on it, I'm perfectly comfortable on an outdoor range. This is my home built pack rifle with an aluminum flash can (The Noveske is steel, meant for centerfire rifles, decently heavy thing).
