An old, rusty, crusty hatchet head and an ancient chunk of wood from my Uncle's shop turned into something nice. Just a couple of hours of after-hours shop-time.
Nice, any "before" pictures?
They're having a Viking exhibit at a local museum, saw several ancient axes in that shape. All heavily rusted and deteriorated, of course.
Nice hatchet, what did you use to grind it down with?
A Bader B3 2x72 belt grinder. I am a knife and sword-maker by trade. I polished it with a 14" Sisal buffing wheel with Stainless Steel Black rouge.
I am jealous. The Bader B3 is a top of the line belt grinder. My 2x72 belt grinder is home made. Your hatchet post got me thinking, my wife wants a shepherd axe for a working stick. It would be a lot easier for me to reshape a hand axe head then for me to make one from scratch.
