guess I finally need to join the NRA...

I don't always agree with what the NRA does but I still upgraded from a life membership to endowment last year because it's better than the alternative...... Besides; as someone already mentioned, gun grabbers hate the NRA, so the NRA must be doing something right.

I upgraded last year from 1-year to 5-year membership, did not go with life member because of my age but I do also occasionally send donations. I'm considering also to leave a small bequest in my will.

Agreed 1K. Every time WLP trots out I clench a bit (plus I'm with GHWB on some of the rhetoric). But I had the same experience in Central FL - every training facility worth a damn requires membership. I look at it like my hunting license - lifetime is cheaper long term than annual. I always hunt, I don't always train, but seems like it shows up enough to justify. Wally made some good points above as well. Plus I like American Rifleman. But make no mistake, after the 70's this is a manufacturer lobby. We just benefit.

Don't forget about the FREE insurance for your gun(s) for up to $2500. Just check with your insirance agent and see what it would cost you otherwise. Also $5000 free life insurance for you (might cover funeral expenses).

Just a comment since everyone is throwing their $.02 in...

For years I would join for a year or 2 and get upset with all the mailings, and asking for donations etc and I'd let my membership lapse. I'd rejoin a year or so later and the same cycle seemed to repeat itself 2 or 3 times. Along came President Obama, and the likes of Hilary Clinton, etc and I had the option to convert my membership into a life membership for a discount. I am now proud to say I am a Life Member of the NRA, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. For the future of the shooting sports we need the power and lobby of the NRA. Not perfect, but the best we have.
