Kalashnikov Finds Success After U.S. Sanctions

Russian and Chinese semi autos aren't ever going to be imported again.

The only reason they were here in the first place was the fact they were cheaper than an AR.

It wouldn't surprise me if the soviet bloc ammo weren't banned for the same reason.

Glad I got my Saiga .223 when I could (2012). It gets remarks at the range consistently, and shoots nearly MOA at 50 yds. with a scope. Too bad international relations have trickled down to the firearms market. Now, if we can just keep these assbaskets in CA from passing even more stupid legislation re: semiauto rifles....

Trump signed a "Buy American" executive order. I don't think increasing the importation of low-priced Chinese and Russian products fits into his trade agenda.

Hope they are allowed back. Not an AK fan but I want an AK 12. Ergos have changed and the rear sight is on the rear of the reciver.

Hopefully his 2nd Amendment inclination will trump his foreign bias :p

Seriously, a modest tariff would satisfy his sound trade agenda, and I would support that. At realistic prices they would be about head to head with an AR right now. And that's what I call fair trade.

We just got two made-in-U.S.A., Kalashnikov branded AK shotguns delivered to the shop today. Didn't have time today to look closely, but I will check them out thoroughly Wednesday. They looked good in passing, though.
If Kalashnikov has formed a U.S. corporate entity, like CZ, SiG, Glock, Beretta et alia, the whole "ban" thing becomes meaningless.

Yeah, these things are nicer than Saigas, better fit and finish and just like the Saiga, they are AK through and through. Are all the parts US made? I can't tell. So are they "US made" or "US assembled"? There aren't any definitive statements in the manuals that come with the shotguns or on the website.
But they are here-----http://www.kalashnikov-usa.com/
So the sanctions seem to have been skirted, however it was done.

We ought to make ARs in Russia to compete there. Colt could open a factory there at colt.ru - and we could watch the AR vs AK arguments over there too! :D

I think a lot of Mossberg shotgun parts are made in Mexico, shipped a few miles into TX and assembled in the US. I know Mossberg has a barrel plant in Torreon, Mexico. Mossberg won't give any information about their parts either.

People are going to buy what they want.... It might be because they think it is popular, cool looking, or accurate among other things. That is the American way, the persuit of happiness?
I believe the AK47 and it's look alikes suffer from accuracy and were designed to be a short range infantry weapon with a bucket of firepower.. The M16 is designed for the same thing, but the AR version tends to be more accurate with longer range. I prefer the black rifle.

AK designed as a machine gun.
M 16 designed as a rifle.

The AK-47 (AKM) was initially designed for rapid firing a heavy hitting 7.62mm round at 300-400 m range. So the accuracy was perfectly acceptable for that.

AR-15 was designed from the start to fire a less powerful round with better / more forgiving ballistics.

From what I read (since I only have access to the 7.62mm version of AK, and only own an AR myself), when fed equal quality ammo, AK-74 (the smaller caliber more modern version) and AR-15 have fairly similar accuracy. Russian commercial ammo is not as consistent as US made, so if you are comparing both rifles you should stick to the Western ammo.

I'd love to see them imported again. The prices for AK are getting ridiculous.
