For hardly more than the cost of a SW Saint or a decent AK, I can build a Larue? Bizzarro world continues.

Now I just have to decide:
6.5 Grendel?
5.56?
.300lk?

Leaning towards an 18" 6.5 Grendel with the 13" rail.
Or a 16" Predator 5.56

Waht say you?

We'll I'm going to drop down to 14.5" for the .300blk and solder the comp on, if I go .300blk.

Usually I'd only want 9" for that round. Should hit pretty well from a 14.5 or 16".

why not have the ease of a threaded barrel for 2" more ? Yes , all this .300 BO burns all it's powder in 9" is a bunch of horse pucky. If you want a supersonic hunting load 16" makes a very good length. My son though it was a waste until I gave him my switch barrel .300 and found the 110 grain bullets were clocking 2400 in 16" and 1900 fps in 8" .

Because the .300 would be great with a long suppressor. I'm all out of 14" AR's. I've sold all my AR's to friends and family. I'm down to an 18" BCM for 3 gun, and a Colt 6920 left. Solder is easy to remove with a map gas torch. I have 3 stripped lowers to start building up again.

I'm likely kidding myself though, I'll end up picking the 16" 5.56 Predator barrel. Would be a waste, I already have two 5.56 carbines.

I'm considering it. I think I'm going to go with the 14.5" 300, 16" 300, or 16" 5.56 barrels.

Thanks, it used to (I hope).

ETA: Done!

Just ordered a .300blk 14.5", all black, 13" rail. I'm going to have ADCO pin and weld the comp, when I drop off my Colt 6920 upper to get it's sight chopped off for a 15" ALG rail and Precision Armament M11 brake.

While the powder is burned up before 16", the pressure is still pushing the bullet, and you'll get more velocity with the right powders. Switch to a fast powder and the FPS gain will be minimal.

But yes, for Supersonic the 16" barrel and the commonly used powders like H-110 for bullets in the 110 to 150 range will get you more velocity, and after all, we sometimes want that since we are Supersonic anyway.

I'm not sweating an extra 150fps. I don't hunt.

A decent short-medium range carbine that can be suppressed, is all. ADCO's pin and weld is only $40 since the comp is already drilled for a pin.

I'm curious about what's needed to complete this kit to make it into a functioning rifle. The kit appears to include a grip and some kind of trigger group, but not a complete lower receiver. Will this kit need a proprietary lower or am I just missing something?

Just a stripped lower receiver from your local gun shop. TTBOMK, everything else is included. I guess that half lower thingy is just to test triggers with, or something. Any milspec forged lower will work ($45). I have a Stag, Bushmaster, and a Noveske stripped lower. I think I'll use the Stag.

Some people strongly recommended the Mega billet lower since the Larue lower isn't available. I don't see any point in billet lowers, unless you want KAC ambi controls or something.

I don't know if my kit shipped yet.

Ok. I own almost all of the above parts and I shoot silenced. Here's the breakdown:

LarRue barrels: Great, very good quality tubes, very accurate.
Receiver and ch: Nothing special
handguard: nothing special
LaRue bcg: Nothing special
Gas block/Tube: overpriced, nothing special
muzzle brake: who cares, its just a brake
stock set: stock is heavy as sin but comfy, grip is nice but geared toward precision, its short and fat
Trigger: Excellent, best trigger made for the money, no stupid set screws or captured pins needed

.

This weekend my son and I chronoed 3 .300 Blackouts of 8" , 10 " and 16" and the 16" gun with the hotter loads with 110 grain bullets got 2450 FPS where the 10" was 2200+ and the 8 " was 2000 and change.. The 130 grain Max Hunting load he makes showed 2200, 2000, and 1800 FPS respectively . so what he has is what a short barrel 30-30 does , or a 7.62x39 with similar barrels and bullet weights.. They are very accurate tho and you got lots of capacity and the recoil seems less than similar 7.62x39 AKs have. Just saying now we have actually tested some side by side.
His 16" is a Switch barrel AR, my 1.5-6x scoped .300 BO pistol gets MOA with 110s at 200 yards rested. His little 8" usually runs with a suppressor on it. .300 blackout is fun, portable on a motorcycle in the saddlebag but personally I'd fight with a 7.62x39 AK instead .
