Got some 124 Xtreme 124 HP plated 9mm and thinking trying some Unique loads around 4.5 to 4.7grs. Also wonder how it would work with 115gr HP for 25 to 50 yrd shooting. This is for my 17L. I have tried this in my G19 and it shot well and very accurate at 50 feet. Open for thoughts

Unique and 9x19 go together like peanut butter and jelly.
I haven't loaded any for a glock, but I don't see why it wouldn't work well.
Some people complain of Uniques metering qualities (or lack thereof), but I don't mind it.

My loads are a bit hotter.....eek I just checked my "new" book (Hornady #7) and it is over published max for 115 and 124....
Oh! I looked again for a different book....and Lees "modern reloading" says up to 6.1 is safe for 115 gr jacketed.
At any rate, you can probably load them hotter and be fine.
My BHP hits its stride at 5.8gr, 115 or 124 (jacketed, not plated).

Good luck, have fun, be safe

Same here. For inexpensive plinking, 5 grains for 124 and 5.5 for 115. I generally go hotter as well.

I like Unique, safe for a wide range of charges and OAL, impossible to accidently double load in 9mm with those large flakes.

Unique is my favorite for 9x19 and 124 Gr FMJ or XTP.

My load is the one Steven Camp (the writer and HiPower fan) listed as his favorite. (Well, I run .1 grain less )

This is the handload I use the most. I put a very light taper crimp on all handloaded 9mm ammo. It's just enough to remove all of the flare from expanding the case mouth for bullet seating with maybe a very, very slight inward curve. This is an extremely accurate load out of every Hi Power I've tried it in, including the FN Competition Model. It groups very well from the CZ-75 and SIG-P210 as well. If I could only have one handload in 9mm, it would be this one. Despite its not being so aggressive an expander as the Sierra and some other brands of JHP bullets, do not under estimate what this bullet can do. It has proven very effective on small to medium animals including Texas deer… assuming proper placement.

Hornady 124-grain XTP

6.0 grains Unique

Winchester or Federal Small Pistol Primer

Federal, Winchester, Starline, or IMI Cases
LOA: 1.11"

Average Velocity: 1243 ft/sec

Notice that with 0.2 grain less powder than the Unique powder charge for Sierra's 115-grain PJHP, we get the same velocity. I can only assume that the slightly-heavier XTP allows for more efficient or complete burning than the Sierra does, at least with Unique in that charge range. Though I've not done it yet, I suspect that Sierra's 125-grain 9mm PJHP might make a very nice bullet for folks liking the "turn-inside-out" expansion thing. Corbon's 125-grain +P JHP uses this bullet and it has proven a bullet capable of very fine accuracy.

I tried this load...and ended up running almost that...but at 5.9 Gr Unique. My favorite 9x19 load, by far.

I like 147gr plated and 4.1gr Unique. Subsonic so its very nice suppressed, and still nice unsuppressed as it lacks that supersonic "bark". Bangs steel plates with authority.

I found a few old 500 round boxes of 120 and 125 grain 9mm bullets I'd set asade, I loaded them with the same 4.1 gr Unique and they shot wonderfully. I just "used them up" as I'd standardized on the 147 grain a long time ago.

Mr. Camps "hipowersandhandguns" site is one I referenced when I started loading, and why I ran with unique over other powders. Another reason I tried the XTP as well.
Great, great load.
I wish he was still around!
