M700. Winchester ignored southpaws for decades after Remington introduced them.

I would be happy with several options listed. However, to follow the rules of this game....

Tikka T3 Lite Stainless Composite stock in 6.5x55 or 7mm-08 or .270. Easy to carry, I like the idea of a detachable box magazine. I do like wood and blue, but this would be a working gun.

Went through the same dilemma about a month ago, ended up buying a Vanguard in 30-06. Really wanted M70 but the budget said no.

A nice Tikka or M70 certainly holds an attraction, but they would be all weather or tactical models, no flash & fancy.

But truthfully, right now it'd be a pair of Ruger American's. A pair of the Ranch carbines in .450 Bushmaster & 7.62x39. Those rifles are sweet handling, light & handy and would get used extensively. The .450 for a hunting thumper and the x39 as a fun and quite useful little blaster.

Any one from the the first list with the 700 being my last choice. I just prefer the rifles that are a bit nicer. Unlike some I have nothing against the new bargain type rifles. They all have good reputations for reliability and accuracy. If I lost all my guns and was short on cash one or two from the second list would certainly end up in the gun safe. If you have a need ,or want, for two rifles grab a couple from list two. If you only need one go to list one. I am at a point where the wife and I can pay a bit more for aesthetics. Wasn't always that way. As she says "I only want to buy pretty guns".

I've owned a 700 BDL for many years and none of the others so my vote doesn't count.

I've been teetering between the Bergera Hunter and Ruger American Predator.
I had both last year along with a Weatherby Vanguard. All three in 6.5 Creedmoor. I really like the Bergara, but my American Predator would out shoot it.

I have had all of them in the upper list except a Tikka, but would not hesitate to get one. Having said that I would pick a Bergara Woodsman.

I would give up every other rifle I own before I would give up my tikka but that's partly due to sentimental reasons. I don't need a whole bunch of different calibers of rifles and can only use one at a time so I vote one high quality gun over two budget guns. I would be perfectly happy with any of the first list except I would pass on the 700. Tikka or model 70 would be my top picks.

Also for what it's worth if a guy is cash strapped and the choice is between a axis or no gun at all, there is nothing wrong with that choice in any way. You have to do what you can with what you got.

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, make it in .308 Winchester and top it with either a Leupold fixed 2.5x or maybe a 1-4x scope. Keep it light and trim.

Option #2 would be a Remington Model 7 (not on your list), also in .308 Winchester. It would preferably be one I could physically put my hands on and inspect before buying. I have 0 confidence in getting a decently put together rifle from the current "Remington" company sight-unseen, but I might be willing to buy an older one off Gunbroker or similar.

I added the Model 7 to the choices after reading your post.
