Anyone using power pistol? I picked up a pound today as it seems to be good in terms of velocity. Looking for .380 ( a little) but mostly 9mm and .45 ACP.

Anyone loading with this?
Thanks,
Dom

Yup, .45 ACP gives a tremendous report, and large flash. It is really loud. At indoor ranges Ive attracted the attention of range officers a few times wondering what is being fired. And this isnt max. If you like it, also try BE 86. MUCH less flash.

I agree about the accuracy of PP in 9mm, and also it's also extremely accurate in .45 ACP. This goes for cast bullets too, and it can be loaded to less than max velocities, and still have great accuracy. PP in my experience will generate the highest velocity I can get in either std or +P pressures, and REALLY makes some stellar .38 Special +P "FBI loads"... 158 gr Speer LSWC-HP driven to 930fps from a 3" M60. Have also used it in 9mm Makarov with cast and jacketed, and it is superb. Love PP.

I've used a lot of Power Pistol to load more 9x19mm than I can remember. It's great if you're looking for speed. Very high on the Shock and Awe scale in terms of blast and flash too. I want to try it in my .38 Super with some heavy bullets but other projects keep pushing that one down the list.

Oh, I used PP in some .38 Special loads with a 158gr LSWC once also. At this point I can't remember if they were a standard or +P load. But I do remember they were considerably faster than the same bullet pushed by Winchester 231 without giving up any accuracy or causing leading issues.

ColtPythonElite, but at what distance?

Even the "humble" flaky Promo produces 1" groups at 15 yards with my Sig 1911 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...omo-reloading-range-test.578444/#post-9415802

bds,

That is a fair question. I honestly dont remember. It was at least 15 yards, because I don't test any closer.....lets just call it 15 yards.... Lol

I like Power Pistol, but didn't really care for that load. It felt pretty stout and certainly boomed. I always felt like it was beating up the gun.

I have had very good results in 9mm with 115gr and 124gr jacket hollow points, also 45acp 185gr hp was outstanding. It's also worked well in 38spl,357mag and 44 mag. I have found it to be very versatile powder.

I have been using it but have switched to CFE pistol. CFE is a little cheaper. I did notice that with PP I was over charging my 9mm rounds a little and backed down from 5.8 to 5.4 grn. I seem to like the CFE for better accuracy. Just my opinion.

Works fine for me in 380, 9mm, and 45acp. It's dirty at the low end of the charge scales.

If you think power pistol has a loud report in 45, you should try Longshot.

I'm a big fan of Power Pistol, I use it in 9mm and .38 Spl. It gives some great velocity and accuracy for me in those cartridges.

bds, That does not look like a 1" group. It looks more like about .81" grouping if you measure it center to center. Does your statement mean that I can expect a 1" grouping or better with any load if I buy a SIG 1911? Not sure my wife will accept this reasoning when I buy that SIG 1911.

I use Power Pistol for my wife's 380, 3.6gr for a 100gr xtreme CP with a .95 COL. That said, Alliant will not comment on PP in a 380 other than to say ask the bullet manufacturer and they haven't tested it. Xtreme responded that the load looked reasonable. The wife has fired 450 rounds out of the 380 with this load. She's not happy firing the 380, hard for her to rack, and a little snappy. She prefers her 9mm. I have probably shot under 50 rounds, seems ok to me.

What about going a little longer in your oal.? Try going as long as will chamber and see if it lessens the recoil.

Alliant has load data for PP, Unique and Bullseye on their website for .380..
Take a look here:

Used it originally in my 10mm. Switched to BlueDot. Less flash. Less recoil. Less report. Way more accurate in my pistol.

Still use it for 9mm, 40, and 45.

The DomFaith, they don't have a lost for a 100gr CP bullet. They only publish a load for "90 gr Speer GDHP". I corresponded trying to get a load for the 100gr, they said they only publish loads for what they have tested (don't blame them). I corresponded with them and with Xtreme.
