I've been using Hornady Unique resizing lubricant for a couple of years now.

On the tub it says "at little goes a long way", so I tried to use it in moderation. It is applied with the fingers and a light touch will bring back a little bit about the size of a sesame seed. I was using this much to lubricate about 10 cases and then going back for more. The lubricant was so lightly applied, I was sure I was going to stick a case, but I never did, although occasionally, I would dent a case neck. I religiously clean out the vent hole on the die every 100 rounds, so it wasn't an accumulation of old lube.

So, I started lubricating about 20 cases with that same sesame seed size strand of Unique. At about that point the denting of the necks ceased, but I wondered just how far I could take this. I'm now at the point where that sesame seed size strand will lubricate 40 cases. I barely have to touch them, just draw the case between my thumb, middle and index fingers and the case is good. I'm starting to feel like a limbo dancer; how low can I go?

Anyone else using Unique know just how low many cases can be lubricated from just a light touch of the surface of Unique? I'm starting to think all I need to do is wave the tub in front of the brass and it will be good.

I have been using it for about 4yrs now. I apply more when the sizing feels a little ruff. Usually between 5 & 10 cases.

Even then I feel that I might be using too much.

Keep the lube from the necks and you want get dents in the shoulder area.

I use the imperial sizing wax which is very close to what your using. I put on a pair of nitrile gloves and use in sparingly. I only need to add more lube to my fingers every 3rd or so case.

I started using Unique probably about a year ago. I love it immensely more than the RCBS lube/pad I was using prior.

At first I was re-lubing my fingers slightly every 2-3 cases. But recently I've learned I can go 5+ cases before touching the lube tub.

A couple of times I've worried I was going to stick a case (only because I was going longer between touching the tub than I had before), but I've never stuck a case.

I'm starting to feel like that Seinfeld episode where Kramer was seeing how far the gas gauge would go down before he ran out of gas. I guess I'll know the limit of the number of cases I can go when I stick my first case. LOL

I'm using Imperial Sizing Wax and never came close to sticking a case with only very little lube. No matter what lube you use if you get some on the neck or shoulder you run the risk of denting the case neck. I suggest you wipe the inside of the sizing die in case you have lube buildup in there that is getting on the case and causing the dents.

I have been meaning to get some Imperial Sizing wax. From what I have read, it is the best product for resizing and case forming.

I bought the Hornady OneShot. product on a whim and started using it a couple of years ago. At first I was using too much and did get a couple of dents. Now I use very little and go by feel. I can tell when the Rock Chucker is telling me to add more.

Also, I notice that I need to get a little on the expander ball from time to time if it is giving me some resistance. Right or wrong, I will dip the opening of the case ever so lightly or place some wax on the case mouth to smooth. Is this ok?

I did not realize Hornady is selling two different products.

I started using Unique several years ago and really like it. I don't however lube the necks, just the body. I don't wear gloves with this because I read, somewhere, this is a Lanolin mixture and does not contain any chemicals.

I've been using Imperial Sizing Wax, and i can size 5 or so before touching the wax again. I love it. hdbiker

I've neck sized about 1,800 260 rem, a couple hundred .223 (full length), and a few hundred miscellaneous cases. Still have more than three quarters of the small tub. I imagine one tub might come close to a lifetime supply. I prefer One Shot to large batches where I can shake them up in a bag with lubricant but for 308 based cases its unbeatable for slow and economical sizing.

Not sure about right or wrong, but what I do, after the case is placed in the shellholder, is run my finger (that has lube on it) across the mouth of the case. I figure then the expander will pick up some lube as it enters the case.

I haven't had any issues with doing that.

I have been using Imperial for many years and never stuck a case. When loading 9mm, I just wipe my finger across the wax and spin 25-30 cases between my fingers then set them aside. As I'm depriming, I'll slip one in about every 7th case (5 for 223) just to make it easier on my shoulder. I do the same with 38, 357, 45, & 223. There is barely enough lube to see on my finger, so it goes a very long way. I've lubed probably 15-20k cases and still have about a third of it left.

ETA If doing 308 from a machine gun, I lube every other case.

What surprised me was getting 40 cases from an amount of Unique the size of a sesame seed.

I use a carbide expander, but still use a make-up applicator to apply a little lube inside the neck of about every 10th case.

The MSDS sheet for Unique shows a significant portion of tallow (I.e. Beef fat).

I know that there must be an amount of Unique that is too little, but so far I haven't found it.
