And .357 sig guys... I was so close but chose the 38 super over it. Figuring it'd be much more popular. Great round. But man was I wrong.

I seem to be a very "average" handgun owner. My list is .380, 9mm, .38sp, .357 mag, .44 mag and .45 acp, all of which (not surprisingly)make up the top 6 rounds thus far.

I am almost finished with taking inventory and organizing my records. I have a fair spread of calibers but have more 45acps than others. That's based on what I own, not that it's my FAVORITE caliber. I often buy guns I like irrespective of the caliber, and there are a LOT of different 45's, auto and revolvers!

Im kind of surprised that literally only one guy here owns one of the big .50's so far.

You left off the 357Sig!!

There should be at least 6 of us!!! It's an awesome defensive cartridge that gets no respect.......

Don't own a pistol in 357. I do have a 357 barrel for my 40. Close enough?

I have equal amount of 9mm and 9mm maks but oddly enough I shoot 38 spcl more

These sort of choices are probably transitory over the lifetime of a shooting enthusiast.

As a younger man (and avid handloader), I thought that the only sensible, serious handgun calibers were .45ACP, .357MAG & .44MAG.

Those choices remained pretty much the same when I first became a young cop, too.

Over time, I added .38 Spl and 9mm. The .38 Spl because I wanted a smaller revolver for court, meetings, classroom training situations and some off-duty situations (especially vest & jacket pocket carry). The 9mmP, grudgingly, when we transitioned from .357MAG to 9mmP.

Fast-forward quite a few years, during which I served as a firearms instructor for 26 years, and now going on 9 years into retirement ...

My most commonly utilized CCW calibers are ... .38 Spl, 9mm & .380ACP.

Sure, I still give my .40's & .45's some range/trigger time. I grabbed my stubby CS45 (3.25"/6rd mag) for my last LEOSA qual, along with one of my M&P 340's. My .40/.45 weapons still see belt time, in addition to range time, including use for long road trips as occasional LEOSA weapons, but it's my smaller & lighter options, meaning .38 Spl, 9mm & .380, which see the most common retirement & LEOSA use.

I own more 9mm. handguns than in any other cartridge, followed by those in .45 ACP, .45 Colt, and .380 ACP.

I have several that are on the list. I own and shoot more 38 Special Ammunition than anything else, so that is what I voted for.

9mm...0
38 Special..3
357 Mag..4
40 S&W..2
10mm..1
45acp..2
480 Ruger..2

I have no 44 Mag or 45 Colt at the moment. But I have had several over the years.

40-50 years ago the 38 Super was more popular. Never was really main-line, but used in competition.

South of the Rio Grande it's more popular, because of restrictions against "military" calibers.
