I have been Googling around to find software to analyse groups/point of impact. I want to test 10 suppressors and get some group point of impact data as a comparison among the 10 suppressors.

I found Ontarget TDS. It seems like it will do the job because it allows you to shoot multiple groups and amalgamate them afterwards. You have to print the Ontarget target out and then scan it in to the software once you've shot it.

Does anyone have experience with Ontarget TDS?

Any other software I might consider?

By the way it must work on PC. I don't have a MAC and I don't want to be doing this sort of thing on my Android phone.

i use the On Target PC regularly and have had great success with it. It will measure multiple groups and provide info on the group size, offset horizontal and vertical from point of aim. You could use this data to compare your differing suppressors. I am interested in trying the TDS version for my precision rifles but haven't downloaded the trail. That said there is a 15 day trial where you can see, for free, if it will meet your needs. Maybe start simple and play with the PC version. I bring targets home from the range and scan them directly into the On Target PC app from my printer/scanner. I have used it this way for several years without issue and I am far from a techno wiz.

Hope this helps and I am sure there are others much more experienced with On Target then I who could provide further info.

Here is a sample target using an older version of the software - V1.1 was shareware.

As you can see, I was doing a powder ladder so there are six independent groups in the one target file. I was interested in how much the center of group moved per group. You get stats per group and for the lot. I think you could make this work well for what you want to do.

I just tried to install the TDS software and my anti-virus (Bitdefender) instantly quarantined it. Says it is malware.
I've emailed Ontarget to see what they can suggest.

I got a rapid response from Jeffrey Block, who makes the Ontarget software.
He advises that my AV is incorrectly identifying those files as a virus.

When I disabled the AV the program worked, but when the AV is on it cripples the program by destroying the license key. Very frustrating!

I also downloaded the demo and have tried it. Did not get the AV warning from my McAfee software. Due to the crazy weather here I haven't shot a lot of groups to test it with yet. It did look interesting though but slightly more complicated than my OnTarget PC software which is very easy though somewhat limited in scope.

I have got the demo to work with Jeffrey's help: had to put all the app components in the excluded list in Bitdefender AV settings.
I will shoot targets this weekend and report back.

I shot the targets today and tried the software.
It does most of what I want automatically, just requires a manual positioning of a bullet hole indicator from time to time.
I'm happy with the program and I have paid the registration fee ($35 is not a lot for this software!)

When I shoot a decent target I will post it here. Today I had crap ammo and I was indoors trying to balance my rifle on a short bench. So my group had a 1/2" center-to-center measurement at 27 yards which is not indicative of what I can do with the Thompson Center R55 Benchmark.

AV programs always think any program that isn't totally mainstream is a virus. They list it as a virus because they want to tell you they can recognize any virus program even if it is unknown which is a poor way of doing business IMO. You could write your own program and have it called a virus by most AV programs today.

The trick as you found out is to register every part of the program in the white list section of an AV program. It stinks to have to do things that way IMO. It wasn't always like that.

That said I've been using On Target for about 10 years and I still get solid support from Jeffrey Block. The version I have needs a new activation code when I move to a new computer. I always get one quickly and help with any issues I might have. Considering what I paid I wish all software companies gave as much for your money.

I made a web-based system like Ontarget... without even knowing Ontarget (or anything similar) existed.

The system started life as my reloading log and quickly turned into firearm inventory, reloading (consumables) inventory and target display. So, add a firearm. Create a load for it. A load is tied to a powder lot, primer lot, case lot, bullet, and eventually targets. Targets can be a single shot group or multiple groups. Targets include stats on individual groups or all groups combined. I can email shot data and the system will import it automatically or I can manually upload it. Shot data includes data from my chrono. Groups include environmental data. A couple of screenshots from the original test site...

There are different visualizations that can be applied to the displayed targets and group(s).

There are a couple friends that use the system as well. A user's data is only available to themselves - sharing data, a very low priority, is in the works (won't be finished for a *long* while).

Targets can be exported to various image formats (gif, png, etc) and pdf as well. Firearm inventory includes pictures.

<scratching head to think of what else it does>

Good to know. Just wondering how the program finds components you moved, unless there is an option for default libraries. Did Jeffrey tell you?

I went backward and forward with Jeffrey via email and I had to reinstall the software and get new unlock keys. The TDS software then ran but then crashed again because the AV objected to where the license file gets copied:

c:\users\public\documents\{b1def13b192b55773301c2659fd56dd9}\targettds.lic.

You will have to add that location to your no-scan list also.

Some companies just don't respond to customer needs, such as changes to make installation easier. Never understood that

To be fair Jeffrey helped a lot even at the stage where I had paid nothing and was only trying the software.
It was one of the reasons I went ahead a bought a permanent key.

So, how does Ontarget TDS work?

It looks like I use the target printed out by the software, and shoot the target. Then I snap a picture of the target and then open that .jpg into the software. Is that correct?

Am I skipping a step?

Skip all that, I found the answer at the bottom of this page. I am leaving it here for others who may have the same question.

Can you provide a link?

A google search on "reloading bench cartridge lifecycle management" isn't showing it.

If this is private/not-online I do understand.

Sorry, Hasaf, it's private. Though it's accessible on the Internet I am not comfortable giving out the URL at this time. Maybe someday.
