Never know what you’re going to find

WestKY, I'd have to agree, the A10 and SR71 have warm spots in my heart, but I'd love to take a Harrier for a spin. If we're talking WWII, then I'd take the P38 or the P61, I guess I like the twin booms/tails. .
Gunny, the Warhawk played a heck of an important role, particularly with the AVG, Chennault's Flying Tigers in the CBI. And you gotta love the Sharkmouth! That lower looks great. I'd say go for the cammo in the top pic. #48.

OK, DC3/C47 and C130 for me. I have been a passenger in both, but I would really love to get some throttle time in a DC3. In my eyes those are the best aircraft ever designed for their respective roles during their day.

And to keep this firearms related I love the gunship versions of the AC-47 and AC-130! My brother saw the AC-130 in action during a joint Army and Air Force exercise years ago and said that "Spectre" could really light up the night with it's firepower!

Years ago Dick Cabela and his brother got started reselling fishing lures and used tackle in their garage.....and we know what that turned into. Brownells is another example of turning a hobby into gold.

Gunny may be the next rags-to-riches story of an entrepreneur in the making.

Never knew what you’re going to find when cleaning up at my house.
I started doing a little cleaning up in my shop, it’s a little messy.:(

Here’s an old 60mm mortar ammo can with 840 rounds of 1944 Turkish 8mm Mauser

Then another 770 rounds of 8mm Mausers, can’t remember right off the manufacturer.

Then There was this can. I had no clue what was in it, but it was heavy.

Would you believe it’s full of Lakecity 556 brass? All bagged up and labeled by year. I think I have another box of brass somewhere. Better keep cleaning.

I think every other garage arond Jville /Camp Lejeune looks like this.

Well I did get back in the shop today to do a little more cleaning and putting things up.
I located an old ALICE pack that had a few tings in it.

Here’s something else that’s been on my bench, don’t know how it made it’s way there.
Back in the 80s Dungeons and Dragons was a game all the kids plaid, but being young Marines we needed something a little more. I bought this game new some time in 1983 or 84. For som unknown reason I’ve kept it all these years. Must have a little bit of a geek in me.:)

Ha, my friends and I played about 1 1/2 campaigns of Twighlight 2000 back in about '94- battling our way back to the US from the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Europe.
The rules system was trying to be a little too realistic/technical, especially when it came to vehicle damage. As a result it took, like a hundred rolls of the dice to do anything, IIRC.
Good thing we have XBOXs to roll the dice for us now, lol!

I then rounded up most of the old scopes I have and boxed them up together.
Here’s a list from left to right.
Sears Ted Williams 4x32
Redfield 5 Star 3-9x32
Western Field 3-9x33
Weaver K4
Center Point 3-9x32 lighted reticle
Center Point 3-9x32
Center Point Red/green dot

Love the steel tube Weavers. Have 2xK4s, wish I could find a decent K6.....

Ha ha you have more AR bits and parts than any of the local gun stores around these parts for sure. I bet you could build several complete ones just from your present inventory. A bit envious as I am just getting into the AR scene as of the past year. Presently piecing together things for my first custom build. I am worried that once I start down that rabbit hole I will be doomed.

Love all of the older scopes you rounded up, especially the Weaver K4!
I agree! I am just getting around to appreciating those older scopes, where the craftsmanship showed in the glass and adjustments, not the "tactical" bells and whistles. All 4 of the left are intriguing to my untrained eye, which, for years, was satisfied with Tasco . I am just starting to upgrade the glass on my (few) rifles to what most would accept as the bare minimum, I am thinking about hitting yard sales and flea markets to find some older ones, to fit to my "older" rifles. Thanks for the pics, reminds me of one more thing I need to work on!

You can still sometimes find quality vintage glass at pawnshops and gunshows. Try the small tables in the corners with the old guy selling jerky, lol.

Armslist is a great place to find used scopes cheap too!

Gunny, nice find on the Weaver K4. Those steel scopes are rock solid and they look great on vintage or classic rifles. I have a K2.5 on a 1950's Savage 99 and shoot it regularly and that old K holds zero like it was brand new. Keep cleaning and searching and entertaining us.

Sorry to go off track, but if I could only fly in 2...

Woah! Somehow I got unsubscribed from the thread! How did I miss this? My other hobby has always been WWII aircraft.

Someone just finished building a four engine miniature replica of a B-17. So... you can not only fly in one, but build and fly your own! I'll find a link...

Found a link.

http://airpigz.com/blog/2013/7/9/jack-ballys-manned-13-scale-b-17-nearly-ready-to-fly.html

An airplane nerd magazine, put out by AOPA or EAA, I don't remember which, had a relatively recent article that said it flew (I'm 99% sure anyway...). Powered by four two strokes.

Thanks for the link; that's absolutely amazing! I wonder if they'll use .30 cal. machine guns in place of the original .50 cal. machine guns so as to keep with the scaled down nature of the build!

Just kidding, of course!

What's even more awesome is that someone had the perseverance and long term commitment to even (forgive the pun), get this thing off the ground; let alone take nearly 20 years to do it!

I wonder if that's like the same amount of time Gunny has taken in accumulating all that "stuff" in his gun room area!
