From now on, when given the option, I'm going for FDE on all my long guns. I spent a year in Florida, and at the range, in the sun, that black gun gets HOT after a while. Handguns it doesn't bother me cause they are usually concealed, but for something I might be carrying in the sun, I'm going with tan/FDE all the way.

Much truth ^^

Shooting in the South Mississippi sun is one reason I’m about to paint mine. Black gets hot, and that sucks.

Personally, I like black, grey, and earth tones for AR-15 builds. So, I'd lean towards either a traditional look, or something in the FDE, OD Green, Tan, or Camo end of the spectrum.

I am planning to build a wild looking one at some point, maybe with a Cerakote finish in zombie green, or something like that.

I've always gone for the classic gray-ish/black-ish anodize (with undertones of gold and silver) that GM's Hydramatic Division applied to the M-16s they build for the Army.

Black is the only correct color. :p

Top-Bottom: 450 Bushmaster, 5.56x45mm/223 Rem, 300 AAC Blackout.

I have a 5.56 carbine build in process and guess what color that will be? BLACK!

There is definitely a green hue to the blackout. :scrutiny:
Must be the lighting!;)

Oh! An emerald green eggshell enamel with a candy green apple clear coat so deep, there is a danger of falling in!

Everything "in the white" or a complete coat in Mercury Silver.

I like things that can be seen from space!

It really is a pet peeve of mine where companies cannot get the same colour Ceracote/Duracoat on components (yes, I'm looking at you SCAR!)

That bugs me as well. That's not just the FN SCAR though. They've all done that, or at least some of them did at one point in time.

The Magpul FDE is different than what's found on VLTOR.

VLTOR is different than BCM.

BCM is different than the paint from Duracoat.

Tango Down, Ergo, Daniel Defense, LWRC and the list goes on. For some the 'Coyote' colors they list is fairly close (but not the same) and others not so much.

Some of the differences on the same rifle.

Paint companies have gotten into the act too.

Bugs me.

Was at the Fort Worth Gun Show today and saw a garish AR with a near neon "tiger stripe" camo, and only on the handguard and stock. Turned out to be a Colt finished LE6922 (dealer had a $1500 price on it which would have bought two black ARs at the same table).

My H&R built issue M16A1 has the same look. I loved that rifle. Until I fired an A2....(though the 3 rd. burst sucks.)

Perfect! Now for the test!
I'll call the International Space Station, you polish it up and stand out in the front lawn. They said they would call me back if they could see anything.

I am rather boring when it comes to the colors of my rifles. I like my Ar`s in the traditional / original color.
I have thought of getting a hand gun in one of the Bloomberg colors though. Perhaps red.

Black of course.

Well, except maybe for this one.

A work in progress, going to be a gift for my youngest. Still have to pick up the pink mags, a case and a few other oddments.

Also wouldn't mind one for myself in burnt bronze..........
