For a true measure of a brand's popularity, we need a way to account for multiple guns from a manufacturer...

I only voted once for S&W, but I currently have 3 revolvers and 2 autos (I used to have quite a few other S&W revolvers as well).

I only voted for CZ once, but I currently have 2, and have had another.

I only voted for SIG once but currently own two, and have owned 2 others.

Heck, I even have 2 Taurus (1 that never gets used and has been broken for years, I need to get around to sending it in for repair), and 2 Rossis (1 that is good, 1 that is junk).

I'm sure there are quite a few people with multiple S&W revolvers, multiple CZs, multiple Glocks, multiple SIGs, etc.

Amen to that... S&W counted as one vote by me, but as of my latest tally, I have a total of 13 S&W revolvers and pistols. Ditto for other duplicate manufacturers... :)

Just wondering ??
I do not own a Glock Just have no interest in plastic guns .How about >>> A poll of gun guys Steel, aluminum alloy and polymer . The numbers and some form of a rating favorite to least loved hand guns .
I have shot a few Glocks Smith Shields, Ruger( something plastic) I own Walther 22 and a FNP 45 Not thrilled with them. . Being mainly a revolver guy . I like steel . 4 Smiths 4 rugers 3 Taurus ,2 Colts ,a Rossi Ranch Hand, Safarri arms, a Walther and a FN .>>> 2 plastic 4 alloy 15 steel . Like the colts best ..

Agree that there ought to be some way to weight our votes. In my modest collection the Ruger revolvers outnumber all the others combined.

I have a Glock, SW, and a Glockenstein which I built from a Glock lower and advantage arms slide. I’d really like to add a snub revolver to the collection too. It’ll either be a smith x42 or LCR.

Well, my edc rotation is generally my Versa Thunder, FEG P9 Browning Hi-Power, High Standard Crusader .45 & a Modelo Star Super B. B. With the exception of my Bersa the others are all steel and all John Browning designs . Unfortunately the only one I could vote for was my Bersa.

Was able to check off 10.If Dan Wesson were there it would be 11.Add a couple of no names I wouldn't expect to be on the list and I'm done.A rifle/shotgun thread would be interesting as well.

Most popular does not mean the best. Mass production, mass advertising, newbie first time owners, lack of knowledge of other guns, some manufacturers producing both revolver, single action cowboy guns and semi's some just semi's, false perceptions, etc. There are so many variables to really mean anything other than who mass markets and produces the most. It is best to take a poll like this with a grain of salt.

No one said the poll was to illustrate “the best”. We do enough of “the best” type threads on here. It was simply for the interesting factor and entertainment. It does in fact represent the most popular handgun manufacturers regardless of why, whether it “newbies” or “lack of knowledge”. Popularity is won on many fronts, marketing being one of them.

I completely understand, and thought the poll was very interesting. And as a good poll, it opens the door to a variety of questions and comments. Thank you for your time.

I figured tactical Tupperware squares would get the nod.

I figured Ruger wold get the winners circle for that particular poll. I read that the LCPll was the most sold gun last year. I believe more new shooters bought that gun than the vast majority of all Rugers. My LGS is a perfect example. They do not carry half the guns mentioned. I have watched them so many times.A new comes in, wants a CCW gun. Small etc. First they show them the Sig 238, let them spend some time with the high price tag, and then like on que, pull out the LCP. They never break down a gun to show the true comparisons etc. When the customer see's the low price tag, compared to the Sig, game over. Chalk one up for the LGS. I know my LGS does sell a lot of Bersa's, and SSCY's. However Ruger is IMO the top seller. Tauras in pistols.

I am a target shooter so many of our handguns are not listed and for that reason I didn't try to complete the survey. However it is interesting that Rugers followed by S&W are the most common. Those two brands are well represented in the gun cabinets here as well.

I knew Ruger would be in the lead even before looking at the poll results. I think I currently own three Ruger handguns that I've purchased new, and another four that I bought used. And have owned many others in the past.

Hard to argue with Ruger's general quality to price ratio. Probably the best in the business. Sure, I've owned a few Rugers that I didn't care for over the years, but I really get the impression that they were just flukes. Most were great.

Not Ruger's "general quality to price ratio." It's simply the price of new Rugers. Yeah, they work, but they sell primarily because of the price point. Best-selling doesn't necessarily equate to "most popular brand." Best-selling also doesn't equate to best quality. Consumers tend to buy what they can afford. Probably a thousand times more people out there packing Taurus handguns on a daily basis than Wilson Combat, or even SIG or HK products.

My view was not so much to accumulate which is financial motivated though to have what I felt was representative of favored manufacturers. .38/.357, 9mm and .45. I'd applied the "buy it right the first time" approach so that didn't tend to be the most affordable in the class and was weighted with #1 manufacturer reputation, #2 reliability and #3 how much I was willing to starve in those college times. I'm not on a treadmill and I suppose if the financial aspect were not a consideration I may have a different view of playing the game of buying.

The one on my recent list would be a striker fired 9mm. I know Glock is at that level yet they are not a handgun that appeals to me. That will likely be a Sig or HK but I do desire a S&W MP9. CA doesn't offer those choices readily so no joy to resolve that craving.
