So, a LGS has a very clean looking RWS 89 with an RWS Supreme scope. (Looks nice, but have no idea if these were good). Looks like a package and I guess that it is an older model of the Howa 1500 which has been sold in several configurations and several companies. I know the action is very good. It feels smoother than a Rem 700. The trigger feels very good. This model has a nice matte finished Euro style walnut stock, and is in excellent condition. The stock is inlaid for the three safety positions. 30-06. They want $650. What say y'all?

Yes thank you. The stock is quite nice, but am clueless about the scope. I know RWS puts their name on cheap air rifle scopes, but what they used on HP rifles 25 years ago I don’t know.

I’d say pass on that. It’s not a German rifle, in fact RWS had no real hand in it. It’s used and comes with an old, cheap scope, comparable to a Bushnell Banner.

For nearly even money you could buy a brand new CZ 557 with walnut stock and it will likely be more accurate. If you don’t care about walnut there are plenty of modern sporters selling for hundreds less.

I have a Smith & Wesson 1500 Deluxe that would be the same as that rifle. It is incredibly accurate and smooth. Given that you will have to put a new scope on it, I wouldn't give more than about $400 for it.

Thanks gents! Looking on line, I found that the vanguard 2 gives you a bunch for the money and you roll your own scope. I did pick up a CZ 550 in 243 when gander mountain shut the doors. But wow those howa actions are smooooth.

I have both a CZ and a Howa. The Howa is definitely smoother, has a nicer trigger (I prefer two stage triggers), and is more accurate than my CZ. The CZ has CRF and a wood stock, which I prefer over the PF and synthetic combo of my Howa. Tough to go wrong with either one, though that being said I'll probably end up replacing the Howa with a Model 70, which I prefer due to the CRF and safety design (though it lacks that great two stage trigger).
