Is the 617 your practice piece for the 929?

I have a 617 6" and now considering a 929. Can you set them up so they operate the same? Same trigger? Same hammer? Same grips etc.?

The 617. The most fun firearm I own.

I believe The 617 is a K-frame and the 929 is built on a N-frame. Different grips. The capacity difference will make the DA trigger different in both guns too, as for SA trigger, should be similar.

A 986 is an L-frame also chambered for 9x19 so the grip frame would be the same as the K frame 617.

But, there would still be a weight difference and DA trigger difference between the two.

I finally was able to handle a 929 the other day. The weight and length are very close to the 617, hence the questions.

Chuck, I have some experience shooting the 986. It has been high on the want list but I was really surprised how good the 929 felt and how similar to the 617 it seems.

I consider my 4 inch 617 as kind of an understudy to my 4 inch 686. There is only maybe an ounce difference in weight and length and balance are very similar. Now if I could just get my 686 to hold 10 rounds of 357......

I have a pair of revos, a 5" 627PC (N frame) and a cut down 5" 617 (K frame) that are matched as closely as I can get them. Weight and balance are the same; trigger pulls are both the same and beautiful. The 617 makes a great surrogate gun; shoot the .22 for much of a practice session, then finish up with the .357. Good practice and keeps costs down.
