so ARs are getting cheap...

Go for it. You work hard. It will help play equally hard! Myself, I went the 300 AAC Blackout for my fun-gun, but I readily admit that I have a lot of affinity for the 7.62X39!

Love my AR47. Now is the time for anything AR related, costs can't come down much from where they are currently.

Rules are made to be broken.

If you disagree what calibers do you have?

My list for ARs that I want to add are (in no particular order)
300 Blackout
22LR
6.5 Grendel

The 300 Blackout isn't really cheating. If you have a 5.56, you have the brass. If you have a 30 cal rifle, you have the projectiles. That's why I went 300 Blackout.

Still, that AR47 is a sweet carbine!!

I love my side charging 7.62x39 AR. I have a 300 blackout barrel as well, which I prefer but the ammo for the 7.62 is cheaper than I can handload it for the blackout.

I have one in 223 and one in 9 mm. Plus a 22LR conversion for the 223.

I have a 556 and a 223 Wylde
I’m not sure which on that list will be next.

I’m with Gene, if you have 30 cal rifle and you reload, 300 Blackout just seems like a lot of fun. All you’d need is a set of dies, a jig and one of the inexpensive HF cutoff saws.

I think I’m going 22LR next, then 300 for the above reasons.

AR’s have actually gone up in price the last couple of months. Anywhere from $75-$200 depending on model and caliber based off what I’ve seen trending on Slickguns.

Yes they are starting to creep up in price. Parts are a little harder to find too. Gotta shop around but they are still really affordable. Just wish I had some disposable cash to buy up some of the deals I keep seeing...

I think you’re right.
There seem to be some great deals when things are on sale, but the “regular” prices aren’t as low as they’ve been
That seems to indicate that the stockpile of parts and guns is dropping

If you signup for BCA's and PSA's email, several good deals are sent out.

JUST AN FYI.

The guys I know who got them weren't happy with them, due to accuracy and reliability issues with factory ammo, and weird mags.

You don't even need to bother with that, just buy factory ammo, or just the brass. I've thought about getting either a 7.62x39 or .300 BO, but I have an AK already, and I don't want to add .300 BO to the calibers I reload. If we had lots of hogs here, I'd have done it by now, but we don't, and I hunt deer with .223 anyway.

and weird mags.

Talk about a banana clip, eh? ;)

you can still get parts kits for under $300 and a lower for under $50. I don't know how much lower it can go.

I've never had a problem (other than it's initial outing when it was settling in) with my AR47 build. I use C-Products and ASC mags exclusively. I have three other AR47 owned by family and friends and they have had no problems with theirs. I have about 700-800 rounds through mine and the only issues were within the first 10 rounds, after everything settled in it's been flawless. I've shot 7-8 different types cheap steal case through it (wolf fmj and hp, golden tiger fmj, tula fmj and hp, fiocchi brass case fmj, red army hp).

In regards to the weird mags, the 28 rounders fit in standard STANAG mag pouches so aren't that far off. They do have more of a pronounced curve to them as compared to STANAG mags. The 30 rounders I avoid simply because they don't fit in mag pouches. But more often then not I use 20 or 10 rounders just like my AR15, as I like the length and that it doesn't get below the grip. The 28 rounders look very similar to 6.8 SPC, or 6.5 Grendel mags, but people don't think those are "weird".

I've said in several other threads the key things to know about assembling/buying an AR47:

1. Enhanced Firing Pin
2. Actual 7.62x39 Bolt, not a 5.56 bolt milled out, buy a quality Carpenter or 9310 MPI bolt
3. CProducts or ASC Magazines
4. Buy a barrel from a manufacturer who knows what they are doing on the feed ramps for 7.62x39, most have this figured out by now if it's a reputable company
5. I prefer carbine gas for an AR47 just to ensure reliable extraction on steel case ammo.
6. I run an H2 buffer in mine and it works well.

What reliability issues were they having? My accuracy has been acceptable with commie steel case ammo. Need to get a load worked up for it to see accuracy potential, but I haven't tried any premium ammo as the accuracy from steel case has been acceptable for my needs.

so you could take a std ar15 lower and add this upper to it and just need some mags that PSA seems to be out of stock on at the moment

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-pa47-16-7-62x39-upper-w-bcg-and-charging-handle.html

Barrel: 16", chrome moly vanadium. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, with a 1/10 twist, and a carbine-length gas system. Barrel is finished off with a .750" diameter F-marked front sight base with sling swivel, standard handguards, and an A2 flash hider.

Upper: Forged 7075-T6 A3 AR upper is hard coat anodized black for durability. Featuring M4 feedramp cuts, these upper upper receivers are made for us right here in the USA.

Bolt Carrier Group: Carpenter 158 Phosphate coated 7.62x39 bolt, Semi auto profile 8620 steel carrier, chrome-lined and phosphate coated. Phosphate coated chrome-lined gas key staked per mil-spec. AR47 extended length firing pin.

Each upper is test fired to check gas function.

People in the past when AR47's were cutting their teeth 15 years ago, were clearancing their own feed ramps such as the picture below:
Clearencing%20Feed%20Ramps.jpg
I bought a Yankee Hill Machine barrel and it had the clearanced ramps and I've had no problems with feeding. It would be good to see if you can find some pictures of the PSA AR47 ramps, maybe someone has one on here that can post a picture. I think most barrel makers have this figured out by now but I can't say for certain, I made sure I got a look at the feed ramps before purchasing.

In regards to magazines, if you have any issues with the lip of the cartridge case catching on the front of the magazines some take a dremel and grind a little bit further on the front of the mag to eliminate any issues. I have not had to do this to any of my magazines that I've used yet, but I keep that in mind if I have one that hangs up. Just thought I would post theses picture and explanations in it helps you or anyone else reading this.

Again what I posted above with the feed ramps and magazines I didn't have to do any of it as mine worked fine, I posted the above just in case someone has some issues, there have been people who have figured out fixes for much of the problems. I don't want you to think you will have to do any of this, but simply putting the information out there that I found when researching my build 3 years ago.

In regards to the PSA link you had to an upper, you are correct you could buy that upper and use a standard AR15 lower and be ready to go, I would do some google searching as to what peoples experiences are with the PSA upper, but I would think that PSA has it worked out as they've been selling AR47's for several years now.

I wonder what the difference is between the KS47 and AR47 rifles PSA has on the web site.

The KS47 is a proprietary lower that takes AK47 magazines. You can see how the magazine well is cut at an angle to allow for the AK47 mags to lock up and pivot into place.

The only magazines I have for mine are the C products 10 round mags. I have no desire for any larger of a mag than that. I've not had one single FTF, FTE, stovepipe, or any malfunction of any kind with mine. It shoots 2 moa with Wolf hollow points. I've never shot any good ammo in it, just steel case.

Mine is a bear creek side charging upper, cheapo delta team tactical barrel, carbine length gas with an adjustable gas block. I have never cleaned it. The buffer has no weights in it. Its very smooth cycling compared to other AR's I've shot and with the krink brake on the front the muzzle blast is very very mild. I've shot a couple rounds with no ear protection and it does not ring my ears like a 5.56 with a flash hider will. This make is very un-intimidating for less experienced shooters to shoot or be around I've noticed.

It would be a superb hog rifle or woods deer rifle for the recoil sensitive. Unfortunately (and fortunately) there are no hogs in Minnesota, and I'm not recoil sensitive so it may never get a chance to go hunting, but who knows, mabey I will buy some federal fusion's and take it sometime to fill a doe tag. Or mabey someday my daughter will take a liking to it and want to take it hunting.
