One magazine, three failed pistols......

Just found the June 1999 issue, and on the cover: the short-lived SIG P245 and the even shorter-lived Colt Pocket 9. Opened the cover and saw......

.....perhaps the rarest of all Colt double-actions, the one year only, Magnum Carry!

I actually got to see and handle a Magnum Carry recently at the LGS. It sold within hours for $2700!
I've never seen a P245 in the flesh, though Pocket 9s show up at the gun shows pretty regularly. From what I've heard they make better display pieces than shooters.....

Anybody else ever have a run in with these 3 elusive handguns?

Probably came across all three of them (though not at the same time), in my travels to various gun shows over the years.

I notice the topics are the same ones we have today. Things have not changed much in 19 years.

The P245 became, as I recall, the P220 Carry. I had a P245, and it was as flawless in operation as its big brother.

The P245 became the P220 Compact.

The "Carry" model has the full size grip with a shorter barrel/slide.

The Pocket Nine was on my list to buy, was gathering the cash when Colt decided to stop making it because ****ing Colt.

I hadn't heard it was a problem gun, actually fired someone's (which is why I wanted it) and it worked great. Just do not own one now as they are Colt priced and I want EDC price and easy mag availability.

I actually carried a Pocket Nine for awhile. Nothing wrong with the gun. IIRC, they were discontinued because they may have infringed on a Kahr patent and Kahr took exception to that. I sold mine when they started getting pricey.

I've actually have a Pocket 9. Before I could shoot it I had heard they were involved in a lawsuit against their manufacture so I thought it best just to put it up for safe keeping

I got my hands on a magnum carry before the prices skyrocketed. 2004 or so? Paid about $425.

Nearly bought a p245 years ago but mags for it at that time were very expensive. But then a LGS ran a sweet deal on the Springfield XD 45, bought that instead because of cheaper mags.

Have a 245, carried nicely and was very accurate (which is expected for essencially a p220). The short mag was in an odd place for my hands, too small for a comfortable grip yet the pinky dingus stopped me from curling a pinky under (like i do with a Glock 26). Shot best with a full mag and xgrip, but the sleeve made the mags too thick for spare mag belt carry.

Ended up preferring a Kimber Ultra Carry for my tiny .45. Same size, 1 more round, lighter.

I bought a P245 last spring or early in the summer. It's typical German made Sig quality and it shoots quite well. I haven't carried it 1) because I don't have a suitable holster for it and 2) because I really just bought it to have a "Made in Germany" marked Sig with the old pinned breech block and internal extractor in my collection. In any event, it's a neat little gun.

Colt was the first to use MIM parts if I remember correctly. Smith was still forging their parts. Ruger cast theirs but we’re known for strength
I owned the King Cobra Anaconda etc and liked the Smiths better. Much better triggers and could be adjusted with just a twist of the screw on the front of the frame with the tensioner. Not sure about the Pocket 9 but Smith already had the 3913 out which was a great gun

The Colt Magnum Carry is what should have been brought out to compete against the abomination that is the new cobra. All steel frame and six shots and its a freaking .38?!?!? I got some problems with the new colt sorry guys...

Years ago, I had a p245. For whatever reason, curling my pinky under the magazine was fine with me. Was able to shoot it quite well. Traded it off for whatever reason. Still, it was nice and wish I didn't send it down the river.

If you read the gun rags long enough, you'll also notice they will reprint the same stories, verbatim, particularly the "It happened to me" column.
