Weatherby Vanguard 22-250 I bought cheap ($400) that was new.I put in aTimney trigger ,set it at 2 pounds, used a Score High pillar bed system after I opened barrel channel and final skim coated the bedding points. CTK mono pod and S type Harris bench bipod and a Turner biothane sling. I sighted it in for Winchester 55 grain soft points because I have several hundred rounds of it.I am planning loading Barnes 53 grain triple shocks for California. The scope is a Bushnell 5-15 Tactical Elite which I got for half price ($350) when they discontinued the model. It is a brilliant scope close to night force optically.I chose DeadNutz Gamereaper mount because that system has never failed me and is light .
I took it to the range today and after a 50 yard, fire one and clean routine , sighted it in at 200 yards and got 3/4" groups (all 3 shot grouups under an inch with the best two 3/4", perfect conditions 3685 FPS with a strap on chrono ), not bad with Factory ammo :). I will be carrying this rifle in my TruckVault, to see what needs shooting in rural Oregon, maybe local Calif Blacktail which I had great success with a .224 Weatherby for decades before I sold it. 15254814800632055978289.jpg

That doesn’t look terribly hard to pry open but definitely better than just laying under the back seat like my shotgun always was in high school.

It actually would be very hard to pry open, it is Govt. Security rated! I hate to give away the easy way to get in to thieves BUT a good Li Ion 18-24V cutoff wheel is very hard to defend against. Of course you got noise and the sparks and if you break a blade ...
And the Alarm and I have the Satelite to my cell system :)

Looks like you got yourself a nice varmint rig! I had a .22-250 and liked woodchuck/crow hunting with it. The cases tend to stretch quite a bit, so it's important to trim often. I ruined the barrel on mine by forgetting to clean it after varmint season and leaning it against a cast iron sewer stack a whole winter.

After being careful removing the rust in the bore, I loaded a few rounds to see if it would still shoot. Got to the range and fired 5 shots at a target at 200 yards, from prone position, without a rest. I expected few bullet holes on paper/or some going in sideways, but was very surprised to find that all five rounds went into 5/8"!!! (Then, I racked my brain to remember what I'd loaded.)

That's a nice looking rifle....congrats on a nice setup. I had to chuckle a bit when I read your comment referencing "Govt. Security rated". With all the issues with government security in recent years, maybe a new "standard" needs to be developed. ;) Again, nice looking setup.

It does have a scope coat AND it is padded in truckvault. My hunting trip rifles are in their own cases for specific outings. I just wanted something that will pinpoint hit targets to say 400 yards with out being in it thousands $ . Also 9 pounds or less as this one is with a good carry or shooting sling and lastly a PC friendly gun I don't have to carry magazines for as I crisscross Ca/ Oregon borders.

I have more Vanguards than any other model of rifle. All are very accurate. One of these days I’m going to bed a stock and I admit it intimidates the hell out of me.

Super nice varmint rifle rig! Always have been a big fan of the .22-250 for just such occasions as the ones you described.

the Score High pillar bed system I bought at midway for less than $50 and requires a 9/16" spade bit and I used some JB Weld (it didn't take much) around the bedding contact points (front of recoil lug shoulder and rear tang area of stock) after I fit pillars . I also relieved the barrel channel with 120 paper on a 3/4" dowel as my stock had a pressure point near the front . I don't know what improvement it made as I never fired rifle before. I tried adjusting the stock trigger , but the pull was still 4+ pounds , I didn't mind the 2 stage pull but the weight was creepy . The Timney cost $105 off Ebay. The Dead Nutz Game Reaper was around $75 and as I said these one piece mount ring combos have worked for me flawlessly all over globe for 10 years. The Bushnell Scope at $350 on sale was a score, true but it has great optics and turrets . There are other options but I wanted at least 14x and down less than 6x and focusing . So the all up price of the rig is around $1000 . The pricey piece IMHO was the rear monopod $165 ! But I will be using it on other rigs too no doubt. .22-250 with 55 grain range https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1...in-hollow-point-flat-base-lead-free-box-of-50 bullets kills deer that are less than 150 pounds VERY well with all well placed shots .
