am hearing the sig 1911s are this or that. Some say they are trash others say they are hot fire.

well???

Their reputation is pretty good, especially in the sub-$1,000 range. If they have models significantly above that, you're probably not getting much value.

One downside is the non-standard "SIG-style" slide which is different from other 1911 slides (SIG does offer a more traditional slide version, though) that won't fit in standard 1911 holsters (mostly kydex, though some leather too).

Mine was a lemon, after a trip back to the factory it still didn't feed more than three rounds in a row. Got rid of it soon thereafter.

I have one of the early ones labeled GSR, I've never had any issues with it, tight, reliable and accurate. The slide profile needs a non-standard holster is the biggest downside.

I have three and all are well-made and reliable. The external extractor isn't pure 1911, but I like it a lot better than having to tweak the tension on an internal one. As Nuclear mentioned, the slide on the smaller models (Ultra Compact, C3) is slightly wider than standard, but the full-sized ones are normal. If I wanted another 1911, Sig would be where I'd look first.

I have two Sig M1911's, one in 40 S&W and the other in 357 Sig. Both operate trouble free but I do not have tons of ammunition through either.

One has a traditional profile slide while the other has the Sig modified slide profile. The Sig design is a bit more clunky than the standard M1911 slide shape. I prefer the original M1911 look.

That's not exactly true. SIG has their SIG profile slide models and their "Traditional" models that have a standard (like all the other 1911 makers) 1911 slide. Both styles are available in the full size guns.

A SIG profile slide 1911 will most likely not fit in a tightly fitted holster designed for a standard 1911, this includes the full size models.

The traditional models feature the recognizable round-top 1911 slide profile...

So holster manufacturers do offer holsters designed specifically for the Sig 1911 slide profile. I'm waiting on one from Stealth Gear right now.

Yes they do, but you need to be aware of the difference and specifically need to order one for that slide.

On the good side, the SIG slide 1911 has been around for quite a while, and just about everybody (though not all) makes a holster for that design these days.

I had a little typo there. It should have been "Some holster manufacturers..." I was not trying to suggest that all do.

And, I agree that you need to know to ask about whether or not the Sig slide will work in the particular holster, if it is a tight fitting one. On the other hand, I suspect many leather holsters will reform and fit the slightly different profile with minimal effort. I have had this experience with one I bought off the rack.

The Sig is a good value to performance. At the time I bought mine they were sub $800. Slide runs smooth, good trigger out of the box for an 80 series type system. My experience with Sig products has been good: 2022, 229 and this 1911.

Thanks for the correction! My non-tiny one was standard, so I guessed wrongly that they all were.

I don't care for the external extractor or the slide squared at the top. To me they both just look "off". I imagine the square slide could create problems with fit in some holsters.

I like mine which is my only 1911. I bought it about 8 years ago in the 16XXX serial number range with no "man hole" cover and I did not know much about 1911s but loved my other SIGs and paid just over $700 for it. I don't shoot it a lot (have to get the manual out every time I field strip it LOL) but have probably close to 1000 rounds through it and so far never an issue. If I was looking for an over $1000 1911 these days I would go with Dan Wesson though.

I've had more than a few 1911 pistols over the years, used mostly on the Bullseye circuit and still compete with a Series 70 Gold Cup Colt. But, for the money and otherwise, the SIG Model TTT is one of the most accurate, reliable and well-made 1911 pistols I've ever owned. Superb finish, workmanship and quality of material imo.

I had one and it was great. I only traded it because I like the trigger on my STI 1911 more. When I traded it in, the guy racked the slide and looked it over and said, "Wow. This is nice. Are you sure you want to trade it in?"

The barrel had a mirror finish on the outside and was smoother than any barrel I have ever felt. The gun moved on the rails like it was skating on ice. It functioned well.

I would buy another but I am waiting for the P210 to be available through my local shop. Probably only be another ten years at the rate Sig gets guns to small shops.
