Hello to all.

I thought I'd inform you all on a defect that I have seen on at-least two Pietta steel frames one 1860 Army and the other 1851 44. If its new out of the box it's hard to notice, but it's usually at the trigger bolt area and hand pawn channel.

Hard to make out what the defect is from the photos. Do the guns shoot OK? Any problems with function? Will you be returning the affected guns for repair or replacement?

The 1860, I can't return as I didn't figure out the defect and was unfamiliar with black powder revolvers at the time around 3 years ago. The 1851 44, I have emailed and requested a return. I have another pic if its any clearer. It could be repaired but possibly cheaper to buy a frame. I can only load five as it seems the channel was cut to far forward and the hammer will not go on the safety pins without hanging up. It still shoots but also the trigger bolt will not tighten and will loosen

It sounds like the gun needs to be returned if possible.

Otherwise, a thread repair such as Helicoil will be needed for the trigger screw.

I emailed today, so probably won't get a response until Monday. I'm just wanting to let others know of the defect and be aware of it.

Yep, let Ruger fix that one. Good decision.

Not sure what Ruger has to do with this as the OP is talking about two blackpowder revolvers that were made by Pietta.

Forgive me, but are these defects visible without disassembly of the guns? In that case I'd not even think about it, except in the one that doesn't work of course.

Howdy

There is really nothing wrong with your Pietta. The slot in the frame the hand rides in is very close to the threaded hole for the trigger screw. In this case, the slot was cut a little bit wide and broke into the threaded hole. Not a big deal at all, I have seen this before. The slot is mostly clearance, and the hand will not come near rubbing against the screw. Put the lockwork back in and you will see what I mean. There is still plenty of screw thread left to capture the trigger screw.

Don't worry about it, put it back together again and have a good time with it.

Driftwood Johnson, post: 10921073,

The one that shoots. I still shoot it and it gets by except for the screw constantly being loose, it hangs sometimes from the channel to close forward, and I can only load 5 (safety on empty chamber). I'd just rather have one that's in better shape basically for the price I pay, other's may be fine with the minor defect. All my other guns without this defect work fine can load 6, that screw does not come loose. I target practice and would rather be able to load 6 and also carry it when I hunt with 6 rounds (In a holster on safety).

Also if you do load 6 (or 5 or even not loaded) and place it on the safety pins the hammer will not release (pull back it's like locked down) without wiggling the cylinder a bit.

HisSoldier, post: 10920571, No they are not visible when assembled.
