Like the title says, it's nothing super special....But, it was a cool little 2 hour or so hunt. I'll give you the rundown in short detail.
I call my dad at about 5:30 and asked if he wanted to go with me to shoot some pigs. He said he would like to, but he doesn't have his hunting license (he is not a hunter in the sense that I would call myself a hunter. He's gone before but isn't very passionate about it whatsoever.). Ok dad, not a problem. If you want to go with me you could just follow me and watch or whatever. He agreed to come with me and just be a second pair of eyes. We walk for about 45 minutes or so and get to a clearing and he thought he saw something about 250-300 yards away. I look through the rifle scope (Using his Colt Sporter AR, Nikon scope, suppressor, Deer Season XP rounds) and see nothing. We stand there for a few more minutes while we fiddle with his phone trying to drum up a rabbit in distress call as we both decided our best bet is to probably shoot a yote. I'll backtrack a moment briefly and say that before we went out I talked to the landowner who is a 50+ year friend of the family and he advised of a coyote issue. No sweat, we got this.
So we get a distress call and he plays it for a minute or two and we look. Well, we see somebody on a 4 wheeler tooling about in the area where he thought he saw something and then we see a big red coyote running away from the guy. I give him a minute to move further down the hill and into the wooded area and I see a smaller dog just standing on the hillside mean mugging my dad and I. I didn't appreciate the way he was looking at us so I pull up, squeeze the trigger and connect on the best offhand shot I've ever taken in my life. We estimated it to be about ~200 yards (according to google maps).
Other than the successful shot, I just really enjoyed getting my dad out there with me to do a bit of spot and stalk type hunting. Actually, just getting out there and hunting with him for the first time in general was cool. I think he'll be getting his hunting license soon so that we can try to get on some pigs. He really wants to take his gun pig hunting lol.
