I'm looking at possibly taking a AR in as trade towards a rifle I have. Guy says it was gifted to him and he's never shot it. He says it was built by Palmetto state armory, but it has an Anderson upper assembly on it. Sound right?
Looking for any advise from you AR guys. Thanks in advance.

Or a completed PSA lower with an Anderson complete upper pinned to it. And, lately, you can buy the two halves on PSA for $330 shipped, something to keep in mind regarding trade value.

More often than not, most that I've seen use Anderson or PSA lowers with PSA uppers. The next popular would be Areo. I've used them all, and they're all about the same IMHO.

An Anderson upper on a PSA lower sounds kind of backwards from the usual. 99% of the time it's the other way around - the "poverty pony" is kind of the budget lower of choice for lots of PSA kit builds.

Without knowing any specifics about it, I'd probably value it as a $400 Frankenbuild gun.

Nothing wrong with Anderson or PSA. Or any combination thereof. They both work well together but are ln the lower end of the value scale. They shouldn't be but they are.

What is he asking for it? You can get a brand new PSA upper and complete lower for well under 400 depending on the features.

You can even get a 13 inch mlock upper with bch/charging handle and one of their $130 complete lowers for under $400

Unless it is a screaming deal I would just buy new from PSA. That way everything is insert their lifetime warranty if you ever need it. If the upper on the one you are looking at had issues but had an Anderson upper and PSA barrel etc good luck at getting a company to warranty something. Prob just blame it on the other manufacturer parts

OP, you would really need more details to determine what the rifle’s original cost was. A complete Anderson upper can range from $250 to $400+ while the PSA lowers sell for $130 to $400 complete. There may be other upgrades included like a heavier buffer, BUIS, or a match trigger.

How the above combo will run is anyone’s guess as well. It ought to be fine as I’m sure it’s been tried before, but it is used, and its complete make up undetermined.

If you have something you won’t miss in trade and are willing to take some risk, as with any used firearm, then why not.

His value on it is $500.00 ,which I thought might be a little high. I'm not sure I'll even keep it or trade it off towards something else. I will have to see how it functions and what else it has for parts before I make a decision.

Honestly nothing wrong with either one as a whole. Wife has a complete PSA rifle, I have an Anderson lower, PSA LPK, and I’m waiting on another order from them this week.

Keep in mind too that only recently has the AR market experienced an extended period of basement prices. If he bought high and doesn’t keep up with market trends, the owner may not realize that a similar configuration (new) may be measurably cheaper.

Assuming it's just your normal budget-blaster type parts, $350 sounds a lot more fair.

I just looked at PSA and I don't see any complete AR rifles for less than $450. There is a nice Build Kit for $350 (still need to have a lower and assemble the lower).
They do have a couple complete uppers (with BCG) for $200, and then a complete lower for $130, though (free shipping on both). That would put it at $350 total if you can get a transfer for $20 in your area.

Please re-read the OP. This is an Anderson Complete Upper and a PSA Complete Lower. How much one can buy the cheapest AR of any other specifics don’t matter and those details (which specific upper and which specific lower) aren’t posted.

I know PSA offers complete lowers from $130-$400 right now and Anderson dealers are offering complete uppers from $250-$400+ (street prices) right now because I checked. That’s a range of $380-$800+ at CURRENT prices which are low and won’t necessarily reflect what WAS paid, only whether used value is a worthwhile trade.

Show me a Delton base model upgraded with Elftmann trigger, Bravo BCG, MI handguard, and Troy fixed sights and I would gladly trade you a $400 or $500 rifle for it.

Darkbob- you are correct. It is a complete upper and complete lower i was speaking of.

As for pertaining to the OP... if all one is looking to do is aquire an AR , one can be had for about 350 new with no questions as to possible malfunctions due to unknown build quality. Thats all. Its a baseline you can use while bartering.
